So in my current campaign I am running a warlock, undead patron, now I am at a point where I am considering multi classing and trying to come up with a plan of action if I do. I am currently planing to go fully as a ranged caster, already grabbed the spell sniper feat. I am torn between grabbing a few levels in wizard or sorcerer. Now I would like some advice as to which would be the better build to go. Please note I am the only ranged attacker in my group. So I am looking for pros and cons of each multi class and specifically which subclass would be the best choice to go with. If there are any questions regarding any other specifics of my character needed to help any advice given please ask.
Sorcerer is easier to pull of since both are charisma casters. I would recommend Divine Soul to pick up shield, cure wounds, and maybe absorb elements. Favored by the gods is just an amazing feature for saves since it uses no reaction. I am not sure how many levels are really worth dipping here. I could see an argument for just 1 or 3 to get metamagic.
For wizard I happen to really love a two level dip for War Wizard. Arcane deflection is really a great way to protect you on saves, and Tactical Wit improves your initiative. The dip here is either 2 levels or 3. If you go 3 you double your spell slots (3 level 1 slots at 2nd, and 4 level 1 + 2 level 2 at 3rd.). Additionally once per day when you finish a short rest you can recover 2 1st level slots with arcane recovery.
Either way you do it, the 1st level slots are really useful for spells like shield and hex which are wastes with upcasted slots. Those spells can stay useful for the rest of the game.
It has more to do with either role play with some tactical merit from items I've got in game that can only attune to a wizard, or combative support since we have temporarily lost one of our party due to real life circumstances(military service), the other two members of my party currently are a barbarian, can not remember his subclass, and a monk also can't remember his class. The dm is a bit of a sadist so I didn't care which way I went but thought shield would be useful because squishy AC. If there are any better recommendations to multi into I'm open to suggestions, I like to have a longterm plan in place for this campaign

Sorcerer is likely the better choice, as elfdope said.
What are you trying to get out of multiclassing?
