I’d like to eventually run a Warcaster staff and shield build for my multiclass, but can’t decide whether or not to sacrifice my level 18 healing ability in favor of using any weapon I want via Pact of the Blade. Keep in mind i get an extra spell for going another level in Warlock; I was thinking of giving up repelling blast in favor of devil’s sight/darkness if I do. What would you all recommend?
Is it even worth it to go Warcaster, or should i give up the shield in favor of maxing my constitution or more feats? Also, how soon do you think i should take the feat compared to my +1 or +2 to charisma?
Well, before anyone can talk about feats, we’d need to know your stats. Before we can discuss giving up your healing, we need to know your role in the party and party composition. But what’s stopping you from using a different weapon right now?
Devil’s sight/darkness is a combo that work great in a white room theorycraft situation. Then you play and your allies are all also blinded by the darkness and can’t see the enemies, and you remember you’re part of a party, and the whole strategy falls apart.

Also, it’s not so much healing as it is self-healing. The level 18 divine soul sorcerer ability allows you to heal half of yours after you loose half of yours basically.
I would need to hold my spell-casting focus and a free hand to use my spells, right? (Or a component pouch and a free hand.) (Unless I had War Caster) Then, part of me would like to use a shield as a hexblade since I can. Because I would be wielding both the spellcasting focus and the shield, I would need warcaster, right?
But yeah, i was under the impression the weapon needed to be a spellcasting focus in order to cast spells, hence Pact of the Blade, Sword Bards, Artificer abilities, etc.
i realize a lot of things require balance and discussing them with my party. I am hoping to go to my first game in a while next Saturday to watch my first oneshot at a public place. I have only heard back from the store owner and not any of the players to prepare a proper character. I’m just trying to be as prepared as I can be to finally jump in for the first time in close to a year.
UPDATE:
I finally played my first game in over a year. It was a oneshot where i used a Divine Soul 10/Hexblade 2. It went well, but I am still curious as to what I could have done differently had it say been a Divine Soul 9/Hexblade 3 with a weapon.
