As a fan of the Warlock class, I've always thought that the Patron is a major part of the Warlock; not only for abilities but also for development and progression of the character. A warlock who works for an Archfey might act differently to one who takes orders from a Great Old One. My question to the community is this, has anyone come up with a new patron in terms of for the Archfey there is Oberon and for the Great Old Ones, there is Zargon. and as a follow up what interesting ways does your character get in contact with said Patron?
Kind of off topic, but I am currently working on a Dmsguild submission for some new Warlock Pacts, Invocations, and Patrons: The Ancestor, The Witherborn, and The Shadowlord. I may debut the Ancestor in the next week or two.
There was a list of 101 Warlock Patrons, which I contributed to. Originally on the old Wizards Forum, but has been rescued and is on ENWorld. Below is one of my posts, featuring Hyndla and Angrboda from Norse Mythology. I also mention some of the Patrons, detailed in 4e.
5) Hyndla: (Archfey) Hyndla resides in Jotunheim, rather than the Feywild. She is a Blood Mistress, Seer, A Giantess and a Hag who is capable of perceiving and manipulating bloodlines.
6) Angrboda: (Archfey), Hag of the Iron Wood, whose consort was the god Loki, she is the mother of Hela, Jormundgand and Fenris. Technically she is a mother of gods, spirits and demons. She is the Chief of Chiefs of the Wolfclan and is one scary woman who even gods fear. Yet she will protect her chosen and test them to make them stronger.
7) Tiandra: (WOTC) The Summer Queen and Queen of the Court of Stars (Archfey), her chosen knights are Shiradi Champions.
8) The Sea Lords (WOTC) (Archfey),who rule the Court of Coral are Elias and Siobhan Alasti who oversee the rivers (Elias) and the seas (Siobhan)
9) The Gloaming ArchFey are many, the most famous being the Maiden of the Moon, who is a huntress and the bane of lycanthropes.
10) Oran the Green Lord (WOTC) (Archfey), is the Lord of Nature.
11) Prince of Frost (WOTC)(Archfey), rules the winter court, but really he is the merely the proxy (does the donkey work) for Elsa of Arrandelle aka the Snow Queen. She is far to busy building snowmen and singing.
12) Neifion the Lord of Bats (WOTC)(Archfey)
13) Zebechial the Lord of Lightning (WOTC) (Archfey)
Me and my friend have tried to create a homebrew dragon patron. You could either be the Warlock of Bahamut or Tiamat, and it would change your spell list. There was also flying involves, and a breath weapon. I'll try and find it and post it here, or maybe to the homebrew thingies once that's out.
We have modelled the Great Old One off the concept of the Guardians from classic Doctor Who - 1980's. With the different "colours" you get some good/evil rp options. In my campaign, my Warlock initially didn't know the "colour" of the Guardian, but made the pact nonetheless in his quest for the knowledge of the universe.
There is new cannon eldritch stuff from the modern members of the group lovecraft and his friends started, and I use an entity known as The Dreamer (I don't remember if it has an actual name). It is a great old one that is said to create, project, and shape all of reality while it is dreaming. Groups from all across the universe send those they can to spend there time playing music to keep the old one sleeping. Besides sleeping much like all other great old ones sacrifices work too. Currently one of the parts of special items my character is searching for is based of an AD&D lute that can cast thunder wave and (given you have the materials) buildings, structures, and other things as if they have been worked on for 100 days by skilled craftsmen(you can still keep working on them this way); but this will also have some other spells attached to it too.
I did concoct a patron for my Great Old One warlock because there really isn't much to draw from in canon. The one I came up with was basically an ouroboros or "world serpent" entity but also drew inspiration from Yig from the Cthulhu Mythos who is a snake god inspired by Quetzalcoatl. It was fun trying to give a form to an entity that has a touch of abstraction to it(the ouroboros is more of a symbol than a creature), and also using some of the themes of "world serpent" lore from around the world. The result was a serpentine dragon from the Far Realm who slept for eons between the planes and hid from a great evil from the Far Realm.
Yeah, of the primary warlock pacts, GOOlock was most in line with what I was wanting to do RP wise, but I feel the Cthulhu mythos are kinda played out at this point, though I loved them growing up, so I ended up going with an ancient AI satellite of unknown origin in the style of VALIS, V'ger, or The Black Knight. The AI uses me as a way to investigate and interact with the world from a distance, sending me on missions that are frankly beyond my comprehension. It also causes me to glitch while talking occasionally, Max Headroom style, which can be problematic when I'm on face duties(we've got two other charisma characters in the party, so we rotate) I mean, I'm just a half-elf that wanted to go to bard school, and now I'm dealing with this nonsense.

Interesting, I've been working on an idea myself called the Cinder Crow where you get wings and you can summon cinders and ashes to burn your targets

Sorry for my lack of knowledge on the subject but what does WOTC stand for?

I see thanks!

I have a weird sense of humor.
I also make maps.(That's a link)
You fail to take into account just how bored I was at work today, but thank you for your concern.
Sorry. There are a lot of people who just resurrect old threads.

I didn’t think about patrons like that. To those who answered thanks for the good ideas!
