Hey everyone, need some advice on a good bladesinger multiclass!! I know it's not an optimal thing as wizards are best played mono-classed, but I'm mostly looking for functional flavor. Basically RP>Abilities but without me becoming dead weight.
I have rolled very high stats so I'm not super worried about MADness and I'd like to be a very gish character. At first I wanted to do bladesinger paladin for the smites and Aura of Protection (Note: crits only add one die of weapon damage so no need to crit fish for smites since it's useless and characters still get access to 9th level spells provided they have a spell slot for that).
But now I'm also very much considering playing rogue for the flavor and defensive options and also because my current character is a bard and I realize that expertise is absolutely bonkers.
My last idea would be a 2 level hexblade dip for curse + EB + bladesinger's extra attack
If there are any other interesting options let me know! But these three are the ones that really fit my character so although I know artificer synergizes better with wizard, it's just not her.
I played a pirate in a game that was a combination Bladesinger/Echo Knight. He would use his echo along the battlefield to jump around the enemy ships, board them, and even position himself in the sails and rigging. It was an absolutely amazing multiclass in combat.
Fighter, starting at first level. Then picking up a second lvl later on, maybe after extra attack. Now your melee is improved with a fighting style and with kickass concentration checks.
Agreed - the whole point of Eldritch Knight is to give a martial class a hint of spellcasting, so you don't really gain much from the subclass if you're a full caster multiclass.
3 levels of Rune Knight would be terrifying with a Bladesinger...
“3 levels of Rune Knight would be terrifying with a Bladesinger...“
This, I’m currently playing a Bladesinger who is now multiclassing into fighter (yea I know starting fighter would’ve been smarter but the fighter is a new development for RP) I’m playing a Thri-Kreen bladesinger so I can run around with multiple weapons and still have free hands thanks to four arms. Also a very respectable AC without armor thanks to the buggers carapace which is 13+Dex and then you can add Int from bladesong. Between that and shield I only ever get hit from crits and not even then most the time since I concentrate on blur. Going Rune Knight will allow for fun times of big bug gets even bigger plus the utility of the runes being awesome. Honestly don’t even care about losing some spells since I typically focus on melee anyways and only lob some fireballs when it’s time to fight the big boys. Otherwise I’m hitting booming blade/green flame blade plus extra attack mass majority of the time. I also run web so I can control a boss fight to become the super annoying bug tank. There is no escape from the bug!

Take Silvery Barbs and stop concentrating on blur. Shield handles most hits, Silvery Barbs handles the crits.
Yes, as a wizard it is super important to not get hit because you can lose concentration. And yes its true you're super safe with Blur. But what are you protecting? The concentration on Blur.
Web though, spot on. Fantastic use of your concentration. And remember, another fun use when your can use Giant's Might from Rune Knight to go Large, Enlarge can make you Huge sized. That paired with your extra hands means you could literally scoop up several people and move around unencumbered, full speed. Hilarious visuals.
You get Con saves, medium armor + shields (which can allow you to use bladesong freely without concern for running out) Guidance Thieves tools + tinkerers No interupotion in spell slot progression
Up to6 additional spells prepped The reason why this is so good is that you only get 1 additional spell prepped per wizard level. Having 1 level in artificer makes it so you will spells prepped equal to 2x your int mod instead of just the 1x from mono-classing wizard. Those extra spells prepped allow you to pack really amazing niche options/ utility spells that allow for having that perfect spell for that perfect time and more options in general.
At 20 int: 1lv artificer 1lv 1 wizard will be able to prep 12 spells. a lv7 wizard will also still only have 12 spells. A lv1 art lv 6 wiz will have 17 spells
Absolutely terrifying, and you can discuss with your DM if you can activate your Bladesong and Giant's Might on the same turn for the flavor of combining your elven song and giant rune magic into a formidable enhanced form.
Old thread, and it's already been said should stay mono-class, but if you absolutely must MC, bard has a lot to offer.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

Monk?
I got quotes!

3 Levels of Fighter/Eldritch Knight?
Nah, that's too much investment for not enough reward at that point. You'd hinder spell progression too much.

Starting lv 1 artificer.
You get Con saves,
medium armor + shields (which can allow you to use bladesong freely without concern for running out)
Guidance
Thieves tools + tinkerers
No interupotion in spell slot progression

You cannot use bladesong if you're in medium armor or wielding a shield.

I'm aware
If you end up burning through all uses of bladesong you can use a shield, maybe even put on medium armor if that would help/if you had time.
Blade Singer is a class that really wants you to go straight wizard.
That being said, going eldritch knight fighter 7 to get the bonus action attack is good. The extra ASI and action surge are also great.
Hexblade offers fun options, but is really dependent on multiple ability mods.
Absolutely terrifying, and you can discuss with your DM if you can activate your Bladesong and Giant's Might on the same turn for the flavor of combining your elven song and giant rune magic into a formidable enhanced form.
