Those are great suggestions, but they are different characters. The delicacy, choice of feat, and the skills are all baked into this character. I was more wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to survive with a character like this. I'm going for divination wizard, btw. Also, you make a good point about lightning lure, I'll switch that for Ray of Frost.
For the character you envision. Survivability wise. Since he’s an investigator and smart type guy. Use cover and concealment to your advantage. Half cover gives +2 ac bumps, 3/4ths cover gives bump. Full cover.
lightning lure vs ray of frost, if it has a thematic reason you chose it, and you really like it, keep it anyways over Ray of frost. Maybe you have someone In Your party that uses booming blade. And you just want to yank the guy to where he then will need to move again at some point willingly.
Maybe the damage from lightning lure isn’t your priority. Or maybe you use it through a doorway. And then move laterally, which keeps a similar distance but puts a wall in your path. And yank them into the wall. (Up to the DM if the movement the spell forces happens before its physically possible for you to move after casting it. Or if half cover from a doorframe and you tanking them in straight line yanks them into the wall or open doorframe.)
regardless.
none of the information you have given. Gives me any reason to think he would have a hard time surviving or won’t be fun to play or anything like that.
with the con. Just keep in mind you’re prob 1 hit closer to unconscious at any given time Than with better con. That’s the only difference that will create. And as a wizard mostly, and I assume not exactly trying to frontline, not exactly something that will be a big deal with the exception of being susceptible to power word kill spells for a longer period of time.
this is slightly off topic. But I saw some guy playing an artificer in what seemed a unique way the other day on twitch. Battle portion to highlight what I mean is right around 55:00 mark to the 1:30 mark or so.
but he uses his bonus actions and actions to try and keep his more squishy, but also more damage dealing, friends alive.
🤷🏼♂️ I dunno. I thought it interesting. Maybe his style gives you inspiration for something out of the box since you’re doing an “out of the box” char.
(as evidenced by people suggesting you change your character to something more of a cookie cutter min max kinda build)
Thanks for the link, and thanks for not invalidating my character. I actually have a high con wizard idea (might post that too), but in terms of personality and motivation, it's an entirely different character.
