I'm joining a comedic campaign where the players went from level 1 straight to level 20 following some accidental devilish deals. I want to make a Twilight Cleric since the deep dark Lower Planes are going to be recurring locations. I rolled my stats, and I came out with 18, 15, 14, 12, 12, 9.
I'm wondering how this Cleric should be built; what feats should I take and what race should I be. I was thinking about elf for booming blade or fey step, just in case I want to go into melee, but I don't know how effective that is for a Cleric at this level. Any ideas would be appreciated.
You're a Cleric with martial weapons and heavy armour. High Elf for Booming Blade is fine. Also you have Twilight Sanctuary so you'll have 20+D6 THP every turn for up to three minutes per short rest at level 20.
Stick your +2 on the 18 to make 20 and stick it in your Wisdom. Drop the 9 into your dexterity because you have heavy armour, you don't need the dex. Put the +1 on the 15 and stick it in constitution. 14 in strength. 12s in intelligence and charisma.
You don't really need to worry about weapons. You're a Cleric so you'll be using Spirit Guardians and Spiritual Weapon far more than you will a warhammer. War Caster may be useful if you want to use a shield (and you do). Other than that, and getting your con to 20, there's not much else you need. Make sure you have Healing Word available to pop people up in the extremely unlikely chance that they go down in combat, maybe a resurrection spell or two. There's not really a bad choice with Clerics, especially the Twilight Domain.
With my Twilight cleric our party went with all Tasha’s custom origin. I chose Magic Initiate to gain Booming Blade, Mage Hand and Find Familiar. I know the new Tasha Feats are more popular at the moment but all three spells work with my character concept. If you find you are going to wade into combat with you spiritual guardians and a great sword you likely want more then 15 strength to wear the best armour and to be able to hit the side of a beholder when you Booming Blade.
