Ok so I understand how the ability works for rolling and making a request. Also understand it’s up to the DMs interpretation of what will happen. My question is a party member in the campaign I am in decided to use this ability and succeeded requesting “us to be taken away from this damaged” we are about to enter a big battle outnumbered as usual 😂. How important is the wording th player used when the DM decides? I mean will they just ignore the request and do what they want or will they do what they think will remove us from danger?
hope that makes sense there is some debate in my group whether or not it matters how specific you are with your request.
My thought on that is unlike wish the god of the cleric is on the side of the cleric. I am not sure if “us to be taken away from this damaged” was a typo of danger or whether it is what they actually said.
A good starting point for divine intervention from the DMs point of view is any cleric spell so to be "taken away from danger" word of recall would be appropriate (the party are teleported to a temple of the god in question) where as to be "taken away from damage" could be interpreted as a request for the party to all be healed (Mass heal). The God will also have their own agenda and will not abort there plans because their cleric has cold feat. So if you are facing a foe the God particularly wants defeated (say a cleric of Bahamat asking to be taken away from the danger when they first see Tiamat) they may choose to intervene is some other way (For example the cleric hears the words "I have empowered you in order to defeat this foe, however I will give you some aid" and a celestial appears to fight alongside the party)
The wording I gave for “take us away from the danger is what they meant I check with them and that was their meaning. So if they had been more specific with their wording would the god follow that or is it better to keep it general and allow DM to interpret how they want? Cool thanks I have better understanding bow
You need to discuss it with the DM. If it was me for a specific request as long as it is in line with the dieties goals and not overly powerful ("annaliate all the undead in the kingdom isn't going to work") I would grant it. If not I would give the cleric some help in another way (probably what they would get with a "help us" type of general request) but some DM's would not give any help at all.
