You can ask the DM for it, get a feat that gives it to you or get a race that might give it to you. But yes, the spell is cool for Clerics.

shillelagh is an Irish word meaning wooden stick and, as a spell, it is cast with mistletoe and a shamrock leaf. If you wanted to keep with the Irish theme, yes the spell could fit that flavour of a priest, though a number of subclasses of cleric give proficiency in martial weapons which would have advantages in their own right. I'm also not sure if shillelagh fits with the armoured theme.
Mechanically shillalagh could work with a Gandalf style wizard though wizards also have plenty of other offensive cantrips to choose from.
On that line of analysis, nature cleric can already give you shillelagh. You can pick it up with magic initiate druid as well.
Per lore, the shillelagh is highly associated with the Druid, while martial weapons are more associated with cleric. While it might be useful to a cleric, I don't see any reason to give it to the class generally. Its useful on a monk/Wizard/sorcerer as well. My response to a player would be that if they want their character to use shillelagh then they should spend their character building resources to have it.
With no access to cantrips like Booming Blade or Green Flame Blade, or multi-attack, it's still more consistent to use Sacred Flame or Toll the dead (even in melee). Thematically it's nice to have your cleric hitting with a sacred rod, but it's not the most optimal.
It would be cool to have some skill or cantrip to sanctify your weapons. Something like shillelagh, but priestly themed.

Shillelagh works well with a high elf (or half high elf), using booming blade or green flame blade.
as for having it on a cleric, it's really not necessary. Clerics are just fine out of the box.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Well, I am not an RPG designer. But if I had to make it homebrew, the idea would be something like this: Casting Time: 1 bonus action Range: Touch Components: V, S, M (a sprinkling of holy water and a onehanded weapon) Duration: 1 minute You bless your weapon by imbuing it with the sacred power of your god. For the duration of the spell you can use your wisdom for the attack and damage rolls of melee attacks using that weapon, and the damage type of the weapon is radiant.

I would do one of these modifications: Or I would add this: The spell ends if you cast it again. Or I would leave it like this: Cast time: 1 action Duration: Instant You brandish the weapon used in the spell's casting and make a melee attack with it against one creature. You can use your wisdom for this attack and damage roll, and the damage type for this attack is radiant.
The second option is much more restrictive, so you could include the proficiency bonus to damage if you want to make it more interesting. In any case, these modifications are to prevent the cleric from blessing the weapons of the entire party. Another option would be to use concentration, but then the cantrip would be crap.

Clerics should be able to pick de shillelagh cantrip. Just this
It would help if you actually gave a supporting reason for making this statement.

I also like to pIck it up with Tome Lock if not a Hexblade. Sometimes things wander in to close to eldritch blast.

Yeah, go Nature cleric.

Er ek geng, þat er í þeim skóm er ek valda.
