I remember years ago this was mentioned as 'In The Works'. Has any mention of this come up in Dev Streams at any point recently? Is this actually being worked on, or was it put to the side to make even more realistic dice?
It seems like you wouldn't even need your coders to work on this, it could just be a matter of having an intern go through the adventures, build the encounters, then add a link to the pre-built encounter in the adventure. The only actual thing that needs to be built is a way to create links to pre-built encounters, though that may be tricky for the devs here, I don't know.
I can't like this enough times! As a recently returned DM/player of many years who played 1,2 and 3 it's been a learning experience but I'm loving it and have thought of exactly this as I've read through modules, thinking of how to run games.
Definite yes to this. I would also add the ability to add the Random Encounter Tables from Xanathar's to the Encounter Builder. When running a homebrew campaign, it can be a pain to add in random encounters yourself on the fly when they happen unexpectedly.
"You hear a noise a find you're startled.... (rolls on Random Encounter Table, rolls for amount of monsters) .... 2 Mammoths that charge out at you for stepping into their territory!! Roll for initiative!!
And... give me 5 minutes while I make the Encounter, deselect absent party members and set up the monsters and map on Roll20 / minis on the table...."
