Current listings of items are nothing more than text descriptions with some "Notes" fields that seem to let you search for some of the more critical attributes. Where's the AC listing on armor? Where's the dmg numbers on weapons. These entries should like like the spell entries do with all of the pertinent information put into fields. Right now they look like copy/paste from textual descriptions. The useful information about the Arrow of Slaying for when I'm playing the game has nothing to do with a historical description of the weapon and what different versions have been created, it's what bows can fire it, how much damage does it do and what magical effects does it have. Since it's ammo, hyperlink it to a search for bows. The DnD community is not looking for a Library of Congress-style archival scan of DnD printed materials, they're looking for an interactive assistant to speed up gameplay, perform calculations and take the tedium out of managing all this by hand.
The spell stuff is pretty much copy pasted from descriptions as well, its just that spells have more actual information in them than magic items do.
I concur that more detail is needed. At the very least I'd like things to actually be Library of Congress-style information dumps, because the LoC index cross references entries. So if you have a magic item that is a breastplate link to breastplates, if you have one that casts a spell link to the spell.
