If this is to be the end all, be all, every player and DM's favored tool, put the extra effort and provide pictures and art for everything. If I click on a creature, I wanna see that creature. Having the thumbnail for the Flying Sword be the same and 50 other monsters feels like a 3rd party app, not an OFFICIAL WOTC RIGHT HAND OF GOD COMPANION. Same with items. Half my players don't know what the more obscure weapons are, or the difference between a rapier, a longsword, and a glaive. Not everyone who plays D&D was incubated in mountains of Tolkien Lore and Renaissance Fairs.
Actually a lot of monsters are already there. Images are all place holders. Right now it seems like its only stuff from the SRD. I can only imagine that nothing outside the SRD will appear during the Beta or in a free version, being reserved for people who pay a subscription fee after the launch. From the fact they have placeholders there I'd guess they intend to at least have more images, if not images for everything.
We can hope. At the very least it would be nice if we can put our own pictures into the place holder locations so we can find images on pinterest or something.
