I saw the banner announcing a 15% off sale and went to check it out and maybe pre-order Dragonlance, but I noticed that it was only discounted by 15% (29.99 > 25.49). I purchased the Legendary Bundle a long time ago, and the icon next to the price said it was "discounted for owned content" ... so it appears the 15% is from that and the sale discount is not being applied. Can anybody confirm if this is an official change to how sales work with the Legendary Bundle discount? Or is it just an error?
just a guess, but given the unique nature of how Dragonlance is bundled in the pre-order. I cant help but wonder that after release, it may be a stand-alone product that is eligible for the bundle discounts.
I have had the Legendary bundle for years now and the sale discounts have never been stacked on a product that was still in pre-order in that time. They may after release and then stack, but never during preorder. You can either choose the pre-order vanity items or you can choose the additional discount, never both.
Oh they always stacked for me. That was part of the reason to buy the bundle. To get a discount above what people who haven’t paid for it get. It’s not 30% off, but it was 15% off the sale price. Around 20% total in the case.

You must always get them after release. I have only purchased during preorder times because to me, the preorder perks are worth the money saved by waiting for additional sales.
Preorders, Spelljammer: Adventures in Space, and Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel are not included in this sale. In an effort to further support our friends over at Extra Life, we will not be including Extra Life products in this sale
I have been buying preorders for years while having the legendary and never had them applied to my purchase. I need to see that a purchase history for those dual discounted preorders. Give a man a screenshot, friend! I am going to submit a ticket for my refund!

Sales (used to?) stack with bundle discount even for preorders. I always wait for a sale to preorder, or preorder like a week before if there hasn't been a sale.

It seems like Dragonlance is not inlcuded in this sale. Your 15% off is from the Legendary Bundle.
Nothing seems to be included for me. Everything has the same discount.
I have had the Legendary bundle for years now and the sale discounts have never been stacked on a product that was still in pre-order in that time.
I have also had the Legendary Bundle for several years, and I have always been able to wait for a sale and have that discount stack with the sale discount, even for pre-orders. Also, none of the other books included in the sale (that are already released) are showing the additional discount. This is pretty disappointing because the primary reason for my purchasing the Legendary Bundle was for the discount on future books that was advertised as stacking with other discounts.
Does anyone know the best way to get an official response on this from WotC/DnDBeyond?
edit: I just looked at the Legendary Bundle page, and it now says this:
You will also automatically receive a 15% discount off standard pricing for all future digital Dungeons & Dragons sourcebook and adventure book purchases on D&D Beyond!
I gotta say, this really pisses me off. I used to purchase just about everything WotC put out through DNDBeyond when sales were running, just to have access to it in case I wanted it in the future. That's the end of that, and from now on I will be very selective about what I purchase through DNDBeyond, if I continue to purchase DNDBeyond content. Nice bait and switch WotC!
Regarding how it used to work, this is a post from DDB staff from Feb 2022:
Are the bundles a good deal?
You bet they are! Our most inexpensive bundle, the Player Bundle, typically offers you a 20% discount versus buying each book individually. Similarly, the Sourcebook and Adventure Bundles normally net you 10% off versus purchasing individual books. Our largest bundle, the Legendary Bundle, typically lets you get in on all the action for 15% off versus individually buying books! But during this sale, you'll see even greater savings!
You also get discounts on books that are added to the bundles in the future. The Sourcebook and Adventure Bundles give you 10% off future books and the Legendary Bundle gets you 15% off. Pro tip: you can even stack these discounts with our single book sales! Getting into bundles early and capitalizing on single book sales is a great way to maximize your savings on future book purchases.
I'm not sure what they mean by "single book sales," but this always worked with coupons and every sale I have tried up until the past week.
I seem to remember a sale earlier this year or late last year that did not include pre-orders either. I decided to wait it out and the next sale just before that particular book, I'm not sure which at this point, was released did include pre-orders. Granted I skipped the 15% sale that didn't include pre-orders and waited for the 10% one that did, but I got it and the next 3 pre-orders then and my Legendary Bundle discount also applied.
I'm not sure when the verbiage changed to
You will also automatically receive a 15% discount off standard pricing for all future digital Dungeons & Dragons sourcebook and adventure book purchases on D&D Beyond!
Though I'm willing to give it one sale cycle and see if a sale for pre-orders hits before Dragonlance.
The lack of stacking does feel like a change, and my first thought was that it was a direct result of the acquisition of D&D Beyond by Hasbro.
Alongside the "you get no legendary bundle discount on physical/digital bundles" move, this is starting to feel like Hasbro doesn't like the lower margins associated with the Legendary Bundle and is actively working to reduce its utility/relevancy for customers to get those margins up.

Yeah that was my impression too. Pretty silly if so imo because, at least as far as I am concerned, instead of getting an extra $4-5 from me on each new book they'll be getting ~$20 less. As a matter of principle, I won't be buying future content unless it is something my group actually needs if this is true. I don't appreciate being sold on the idea of purchasing this extremely expensive bundle on the promise of a discount that stacks and then that being taken away with no announcement. They might as well have taken the whole discount away, because I rarely purchase content from DNDBeyond that isn't on sale already. I usually purchase the physical books too, and with the way those releases have been going I was already reconsidering that as well. The digital bundle offer for Dragonlance is also not a savings compared to what I was doing before. This is all VERY disappointing.
It’s pretty disappointing, definitely feels like a fundamental shift. The result for me is that my purchasing will drop significantly. Changing the rules of a purchase like that after the fact is bad practice.
I'm new to the forums page but not new to D&D beyond. Unfortunate I too have fallen for the " Buy the Legendary Bundle and get 15% off " verbiage snake oil! I contacted them about their figuring of discount percentages and I'm still waiting for a response. I've already prepared myself for the response to be sometime in the distant future or not at all. Also, if I do get a response in the distant future, I figure it will go something like " Due to the recent changes in our management and administration, all prior purchases made through D&D Beyond are subject to change. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you but looking forward to the future of D&D Beyond we will have new and exciting things to offer! If you have any further questions, comments, or concerns please don't hesitate to contact us".
Hopefully I'm wrong and all is well at D&D beyond. Butttttttt I have worked for a few companies that were sold to, merged, or bought out by other companies and changes for the staff and customers usually are the biggest and most negatively impacted by the acquisition. I see lots of physical copies in my future.

This is a big part of why I bought the bundle originally. It always used to stack. This absolutely needs to come back.

Per the article (FAQ) for the sale

Nope, almost always pre-order if there is a sale.

Strategic. I will do this going forward then.
