There are two ways to join a campaign once you follow the campaign invite like:
By making a new character on the join screen. This character will immediately and automatically have access to shared content
By joining with a pre-existing character. Once the character is selected and added to the campaign, shared content will be available to them from within the character sheet (spells, magic items, etc) and within the edit menu (for subclasses, races etc)
If somebody has shared xanathars guide to everything can i use the hexblade subclass or do i still have to pay for the book
