I have a character in an ongoing campaign, and I'm trying to use the notes section to record things that he's learned, but it's getting difficult, as the section is a bit unwieldy beyond basic character backstory.
I'd like to suggest two major additions:
Custom Notes
What I'd love is the ability to add discrete notes, each with their own title, category, custom tags and text content.
Sub headings in the notes section would then be based on the category used, with players having any current allies, backstory etc. migrated into single notes with the Ally, Backstory etc. category set automatically. Under each category would be further sub headings by custom tags used by notes in that category.
Basic categories would be ones we have now (Ally etc.), but also things like Location (for location specific notes), Quest (for quest specific notes) and so on.
The idea is to have a completely custom, but still structured, notes section that can contain everything your character knows.
Searchable Notes
Since even this new system could get very full, the ability to search it by tag and/or text would be very useful too, especially handy if you hear a name but can't quite remember who it was (or what category they might be in).
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
What do you mean by the "the AL log sheet"? Not sure I recognise that abbreviation, or do you mean the combat tracker?
No matter how it's done, I think that the less often players have to go outside of D&D beyond to keep track of things, the better it is for the players and for the site as well. Last time I did a full campaign regular pen and paper style I ended up with page after page of notes I then couldn't find anything in, though I could at least get it roughly chronologically. Current notes section aren't any worse than one massive text document, and at least most browsers allow searching to a degree, but it could be a lot easier to structure.

"Adventurers League." It is the organized play of D&D. Kind of like tournaments are to sports, but these are obviously cooperative not competitive. If you can think of any stores where people sometimes play D&D, they probably have scheduled AL games there.
Today I clicked on the Notes - Other section. Everything above the cursor position appeared in the edit window, but nothing below did. The edit window then reported "Saved". Ctrl+Z failed to undo the error. Reloading the character sheet also failed to correct the issue. 90% of my campaign notes are gone. I've found instances of this bug reported as far back as 2018 without resolution. Until the Beyond team fixes this bug, I would not use the Notes section as your exclusive record.

Maybe the AL log sheet could be adapted for session notes after they add that much needed feature.

I'm keeping track of the details of each session in Notes - Other. Can we continue typing in this forever?
As far as I know, yes.

Yeah I'd like to be able to add more sections. So additionally to allies, enimies, etc, I want to add things such as 'session 1' or 'towns'
