I have had two players exit my table, and their characters have become NPC’s that the group can control. But all I can do as a DM is deactivate the character, when what I would like to do is unassign the player so that if another player wants to play that character in the future, all I have to do is assign the new player to the NPC. I know as a player I can unassign myself from my own character, but as the DM I should also have this measure of control.
