I'm starting up a new campaign with many folks that haven't played D&D before (woo hoo!). And I'm sure it's no surprise that the sheet number of options is a bit overwhelming to them. It would be incredibly helpful if DMs could apply default filters to a campaign that would impact what players see for character creation, available items, adding spells, and probably a couple other places I can't think of at the moment that players access over the course of a campaign. As a bonus, a quick filter for "stuff I own" would be great. But even going through the giant list of resources would be fine as long as it set defaults across all players in the campaign. I think there would be plenty of value in even setting the filters for each content area (races, backgrounds, spells, items, etc.) if creating a single global setting is too tricky, as long as they carried down to all my players.
Yes...players can filter by sources in their profiles and in some of the search pages for spells, items, etc.. But even that's a bit intimidating (and lengthy) given the ever growing list of resources AND the need for me to walk each player through which resources to look at.
As the resources and options grow, it is only going to become more of a painful experience to manage and navigate them, arguably, undermining the core value DDB is meant to provide by simplifying the "data management" involved in playing the game.
And if there is a feature I missed or a hack folks are using, please let me know! Thanks! And keep up the great work on this very useful and valuable tool set for running the game.
Seconded - about to run a one-shot with players and it would be nice to 'checkbox' races and subclasses to make the initiation process easier for character building. That way I can guide my players easier through character creation (and stop them choosing the functionally awful 4 Elements Monk 😂)
