There are many class features or specific functions of DND mechanics that specify that only spells with "a range of touch" or "can only target the self" can be cast on the object or with other qualifications.
For instance, Find Greater Steed states that "While mounted on it, you can make any spell you cast that targets only you also target the mount." If I wanted to create a mechanically optimized character build around spell casting mounted combatant, I would love to be able to search for spells that would qualify for this statement.
Another example is the Contingency spell that states "Choose a spell of 5th level or lower that you can cast, that has a casting time of 1 action, and that can target you." This would also be a great opportunity to search for spells that are 5th level and has a casing time of 1 action. In this instance, I would filter for all spells other than area of effect spells.
