I would really like to equip my characters with some honestly, really basic items, but the equipment database is really shallow. Honestly, D&D Beyond, do better!
Beyond only supports things that are officially in the rules, and whatever third party content that makes it on here, to the best of their ability. If you are looking for mundane items like katanas and recurve bows, those will not be in there since those things are not in the rules. If you want those things, you can simply reflavor longswords and bows and rename those items in the inventory on the character sheet.
If you are talking about magic items, there is only a limited amount of them in BR/SRD. If you want more magic items beyond the free stuff, you will have to buy them, similar to how you will have to buy the DMG or magic item cards if you want them physically at the table.
