These questions are from a DM's perspective, running a campaign on D&DBeyond and allowing players to access the required content.
Once the 2024 rulebooks officially release, How will DM's manage what rules are being used in their campaigns.
Will the 2024 rules be seperate content sources that the DM can set in campaign sharing.
Will a DM be able to start a new campaign on D&DBeyond with the 2014 rules.
How will a DM be able to tell if a character is using 2014 or 2024 features without picking apart a character, level by level, feat by feat to check the wording.
From a players perspective, creating and maintaining a character on D&DBeyond
Will a player be able to choose when creating a character if 2014 rules or 2024 rules will be used.
A DM can set what content is shared in their campaign, but it would not prevent a player who themselves have access to additional content from using the new content.
Once the 2024 rulebooks officially release, How will they manage what rules are being used. It sounds like anyone with both will have access to both.
Will the 2024 rules be seperate content sources that the DM can set in campaign sharing. Unsure. Could be a toggle. Could just be that the 2024 versions are considered separate classes in the character builder.
Will a DM be able to start a campaign with the 2014 rulebooks. It sounds like this should be possible. The 2014 character options should still be valid.
Will a player be able to choose when creating a character if 2014 rules or 2024 rules will be used. This is a repeat of the first question.
How will a DM be able to tell if a character is using 2014 or 2024 features ? The features are worded differently and some appear at different levels, at the very least.
We have no official confirmation on exactly how it'll look. However, my impression of what to expect based on what I've heard is bolded under each of your questions.
thanks for your input, yeah i could have worded my questions a bit better, i have updated the Original post.
the questions are around using the DnDBeyond platform for managing campaigns and characters once the new rules become available.
Currently the platform can only restrict what content a DM shares in a campaign, but it does not limit what content a player character would have access to (if that player has additional rulebooks themselves)
A character can be built limiting some of the rules that can be used for a character, e.g.:
Settings:
Homebrew Content
Magic: The Gathering Content
Eberron Content
Noncore D&D Content
Dragonlance Content
Planescape Content
Third Party Sources:
Critical Role Content
Rick and Morty Content
Minecraft Content
Grim Hollow Content
Drakkenheim Content
Humblewood Content
Kobold Press Content
MCDM Content
Optional Rules:
Optional Class Features
Customize Your Origin
The DB having to dig into each character level by level, feat by feat is not practical realistically.
I hope those behind the DnDBeyond platform step up and enhance the way to limit a characters content sources.
