Absolutely absurd. I own the Humblewood campaign book, the physical copy as well as the Player's Handbook. I'm not paying another $50 and $30 to have access to digital versions of the 3 race and subclass options and handful of spells I need my players to actually have access to. Instead of giving DND beyond $15ish for what we need for the campaign, they now get $0 as we move to external options. I'd much rather stay here than jerry rig everything together into one source myself, but WotC/Hasbro is out of their gourd if they think $80 is a reasonable amount for 2 digital versions of books to get 3 pages worth of actual content from them, especially when someone already owns a physical copy.
I agree, I Rather liked the ability to buy parts of book as needed and sometimes I ended up buying the full book later down the road but now they get nothing out of me at all.
I'm talking to my players about ditching dndbeyond about it. We used to crowdfund buying all the class stuff and the occasional magic items and a DM subscription but I'm not dropping 30$ for a book when I need a subclass or spell when I already have a physical copy of most of the books. Looking at a cloud solution so I can just have them all do form-fillable PDF and just submit it to that. Literally the only thing I use Dndbeyond for is character building and spell/item lookup. I don't use the encounter builder so that's a waste for me, I have a hardcover for the substance of the adventure so that's a waste for me. If they stop making hard copies of the book I'll either just jump to 3rd party content or jump to another ttrpg. Just a shame I have to consider it. I love D&D and dndbeyond made playing a lot easier to access but this new decision is an unfortunate turn of events.
I have posted on many threads and I will continue to do so, Why are we being ignored! bring back a la carte purchases.
I don't want to delete my account, it is super convenient, I will however download and print every thing I have ever purchased and go back to a paper character sheet if needs be.
I buy the physical books for DM info and other stuff and used to buy character creation stuff via a la carte. Now I can’t create the desired character I’ve been wanting to create simply because I have to buy the whole book. Not worth $30 for one subclass.
Bring back a la carte purchases! I see no value in paying $30 for one item, subclass, or spell. This is only slowing down their profit making. I'm currently DM'ing my first game and I bought the adventure book months ago. But during the time since then, I made a couple additional characters by buying the parts individually. So now instead of getting a few dollars from me every few months, they will get zero until i finish this campaign. And may not get any after that.
Big corps don't care about us, only our money, so until they see analytics report with either revenue going up or down they don't change anything, sadly.
With that being said, I won't buy the whole book because of one spell, I will just homebrew it (and if they close this possiblity, I will just get it somewhere else for free).
I pay for the subscription because it is convenient to use the tool, same with the core books, because it is necessary, and it is okay to pay, but at the same time mechanics like subclasses, spells, feats should be accessable a la carte. It is redicoulous to hide them behind the 50$ price for a book I don't need at the moment.
Not sure how these forums work, but Bump. Blatantly transparent anti-consumer decisions from WotC. Hard to see how they could manage to plummet their good will with customers any more than they already have, but I'm sure they'll manage to surprise us.
I don’t wanna give this topic up either, even though I am purchasing the new books from my FLGS. The mods have really stopped engaging in this conversation, giving the impression that it’s basically just not gonna come back. Whether that’s an internal choice or they’re simply just worn out on the topic. Radio silence from the company was bad enough, but seeing the community managers and moderators ignoring it for the most part I just lost all hope.
I just had a conversation about this with 1 of my players. The a la carte feature was one of the last selling points for this site. Came to find out this feature was removed with no prior notice. I agree with the outrage and sentiment of this and other similar threads.

Toxic business practices from Wizards yet again.

Never ever dropping it. I will literally never buy an entire source book. Like. Never. I hope sales actually drop significantly cause this is bs

if i need 4% of something i will buy 4% or 0%. i will not buy 100% of something for 1 feat/spell/race.
i wanted to play a Leonin. with a few feats and trates from different books. i will now not be buying anything.
My wife got me into this many years ago. Monkey king fan. Sneak fan. Storyteller.
