This is making my life as a DM harder than it's ever been since I started using D&D Beyond. I'm constantly fielding questions from players about "why can't I set this in my new character"?
"Because that's a 2024 Paladin, and you need to pick the Legacy Paladin to get the 2014 rules."
Yeah, I know it'll still be jacked up for the ones who bought it, but most of mine haven't yet. And frankly, this experience is so poor that it's gonna push me back to looking at running other systems again so I don't know if I'll ever use them anyway.
I was considering starting a seperate account for the new rules et al so I could drop a character in campaigns that wanted to use the new ruleset, but without being able to turn of individual content, as jl8e said if anyone has it everyone has it. It is like the worst STD imaginable, know someone with it and bam you got it and it ruins your game!

Yep. Basic Rules are available to everyone, meaning you'll already see 4 classes and the rest will appear in a week or so regardless of what you do or don't buy.
I too regret my purchase. If I could have a redo I’d never have bought the 2024 content. I can’t make a classic 2014 character without it being corrupted by 2024

The character sheet details such as tooltips were always going to update to 2024 definitions whether you bought the book or not. And all of your 2014 options are still fully present thanks to outcry (whereas they were going to retire the legacy spells entirely before).

Can I get a refund and return the 2024 rules?
Before you try, if any of your players have the book, it won't change anything. Everyone's content is shared.
You can try contacting support. Be aware that they're not fast.
I have no idea if it's something they'll do.

Keep in mind that the basic rules will automatically be available to everyone also.
