I came here by accident. I am. teacher with students who like to play D&D in the library during lunchtime. They were using the books to tell the DM side, and using the dice (odd-shaped ones) to decide actions and results. That is literacy and Numeracy at work.
I decided to delve into this world of D&D RPG...I am a fan of 'Critical Role' and have seen some plays. D&D Beyond has let me create a character, and now I'm working with ChatGPT (yes, outside sources) in my own world. I generally live in an isolated world...away from city and town communities. So going to a group event and campaign is not easy, especially when I am learning. I have even created a journal/chronicle (in Pages (Apple), in a special parchment theme) of my adventures with ChatGPT, but I use D&D as my character sheet and 'digital dice'... working on getting some dice of my own.
I just wanted to say 'Thank you' as a teacher looking for adventure, and for my students who play D&D. 💜💜💜
I get that now(Thank you for the reply). Playing with AI has helped me learn the basics (very basic, with instruction), but I'm still learning. But noted... I'm a bit cautious. I don't want to be 'killed' early. Met some mean players who have 'killed' my character early on. It's hard to track when pacing real life with online... would 💜💜💜💜 for the opportunity to have a character grow.
This is basically a new experience for me... but I want to learn.
Echoing Davyd, but AI isn't the way to go. The AI responses are often wrong, even giving the completely opposite answers on top of the raft of reasons AI is awful in general. There is a forum on here to help find online or in-person games (much better btw).
You mention met some players who "killed your character". That isn't playing D&D at all, the game is a cooperative experience with the characters and DM all working to create a shared world where everyone has fun. If you somehow got into some PvP combat room you haven't played the game really.
Look for a beginner game, some DMs enjoy teaching new players.
Hang in there and welcome to what has become a 46 year passion of mine!
Not at all. The fact that there are grammatical errors means that the AI/support tool, or whatever it is, cannot be bothered. I am a secondary teacher… in science, maths and music (literally everything is truncated and symbolised). Isolated by distance while learning the game, and as ‘s””t’ as it is, online resources are how I learn.
My students have learnt the same way...
Decide on my post if you will. You want evidence? Here I am... sarahtalbotmusic.com.
Where's your proof? I am a teacher of science, maths and music, and have been for the last 15 years, living in an isolated community. I will take what I can get on a teacher's salary (hence the strikes around the country). But I will keep my storytelling and music composition going. After all, I am fully published on Spotify, YouTube and SoundCloud (Sarah Talbot).

Do yourself a serious favour, drop the ChatGPT and look into online play with real people. It'll give you a better, and healthier, D&D experience

I resent being called a fake…
