I am confused on how to make magical items. The process is not intuitive enough, because I can't see what happens to a character when they get the item equipped, and it takes a lot of clicks to add a single modifier.
Core suggestion: Give me a dummy character with ability stats all 10, equipped with the weapon, and show me:
New ability skills
Additional skills
Saving throws
Actions
HP
Initiative
When I create something, highlight what is affected.
Further suggestion: Give me a fancy editor, and a JSON-editor.
When I create something in the fancy editor, let me see it be highlighted in the dummy at once (no window refresh, but prompt for leaving without saving changes, of cause).
Tooltip me to see what should happen to make some standard property of different kinds, such as:
Extra damage of a specific type
Damage with duration (like poisoning)
Saving throws
Allow me to switch into JSON-mode. As example: Dagger of Venom with its current settings:
{
"Name": "Dagger of Venom",
"Version": "1",
"Rarity": "Rare",
"Base Item Type": "Weapon",
"Base Weapon": "Dagger",
"Require attunement": "true",
"Description": "You gain a bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. <br/>You can use an action to cause thick, black poison to coat the blade. The poison remains for 1 minute or until an attack using this weapon hits a creature. That creature must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or take poison damage and become [condition]poisoned[/condition] for 1 minute. The dagger can't be used this way again until the next dawn.",
"Additional Information": {
"Has Charges": "true",
"Number of Charges": 2,
"Charge Reset Condition": "Short Rest",
"Charge Reset Description": "You must perform a short rests to regain your charges",
"Weight": 1,
"Magic Item Tags": [
"Combat", "Damage", "Debuff"
],
},
"Modifiers": [
{
"Modifier Type": "Damage",
"Modifier Subtype": "Poison",
"Dice Count": 2,
"Die Type": "",
"Details": "DCV 15 onstitution Save Negates",
"Duration Interval": 1,
"Duration Type": "Round"
},
{
"Modifier Type": "Bonus",
"Modifier Subtype": "Magic",
"Fixed Value": 1
}
],
"Conditions": [
{

}
]
}
When I change something, let the Text Editor window validate the input, highlight the errors, update the dummy-view, and highlight what has changed.

Hi there Limroto,
some interesting ideas!
I created several tutorial posts a while back that will hopefully help clear up some of your confusion in the meantime.
