I think it would be great to add a filter that lets you view all the creatures that work with the Find Familiar spell. This will be especially useful once the content moves from just SRD to more sources, as stuff like the extra familiars in VGtM or homebrewed familiars won't be viewable together in some other place (like the Find Familiar spell description).
At the moment, under the Advanced Filters you can filter by "Monster Tag", which currently has stuff like Devil, Goblinoid, NPC. Adding a new tag of "Familiar" should be relatively straightforward, and would add something pretty useful.
It would also mean that when cross-linking is added (and I really hope it is added), the Find Familiar spell can just have a link that takes you to Monsters → Filter(Familiar Tag).
Are there any other tags that people can think of which would be useful to have?
this would be really helpful! another idea would be to add quick-links to the monsters in the spell itself to take you to the stats of the monster you clicked on.
Definitely, people have said elsewhere that anything that can be cross-linked, should be cross-linked. Creatures in spell descriptions, spells in creature descriptions, spells in item descriptions, whatever. Though I think for the Find Familiar spell it might be better to just remove the list of creatures that's there at the moment, and replace it with:
"You gain the service of a familiar, a spirit that takes an animal form you choose:any creature with the Familiar tag. Appearing in an unoccupied spaaaaaace within range, the familiar has the statistics of the chosen form, though it is a celestial, fey, or fiend (your choice) instead of its usual type."
and then make "the Familiar tag" a link to the list of all creatures with the tag.
I would agree with this, as the shorter description is more concise and understandable, however, there are a few examples, such as Pact of the Chain Warlocks, where there are other creatures that can be familiars that normally are not eligible. This is where I personally feel that a list that allows you to click on the creatures would allow for them to add a section to the spell description that mentions these as separate cases.
That's a great idea, but it can be expanded upon to make the monster lists sortable in another useful way: an option to show only creatures that are specified or listed in a spell (Find Familiar, Conjure Animals etc), which can then be narrowed down by the specific spell.

Yeah, I was thinking about Chainlocks when I posted this, but couldn't figure out the best way of integrating that with the tag system. Perhaps a Familiar (Chain Pact) tag? And then in the spell description have "Some class features, such as the Warlock's Pact of the Chain, allow you to select from an expanded Familiar list." and have the link go to a filter that includes both Familiar and Familiar (Chain Pact) tags. Or maybe include everything in the standard list, but put a note in the Pseudodragon/Imp/Quasit entries, saying "This creature can only be selected as a familiar by a Warlock with the Pact of the Chain feature"?

You can already filter down to creatures allowed for Conjure [X], you just have to do it manually by entering the requirements, like CR, type, etc. What would be helpful is putting a link in the spell description that goes to that specific filter, to save you putting in all of the details each time. I don't think you need to add a separate tag for those.
One other tag that could be helpful would be Flying, which comes in handy for looking at a druid's Wild Shape. Actually now I think about it, you can't filter on any speed options (fly, swim, burrow), so it might be better to add that as another general filter category, instead of just tags.
I was JUST thinking a “Familiar” tag for the advanced monster filter would be awesome. Thought I’d search the forums and see if there was any discussion of it already and here we are!
So, Curse, any chance we could get “Familiar” tag for monsters? In addition to the ones listed in the spells, I know offhand of:
Chiming in here too. Trying to build my first wizard and finding a comprehensive list of available familiars is almost impossible. This addition would be fantastic!
Not 100% sure what tgehring is referring to with the filter, but I am super new to the site so may be missing something.
Giving this a bump to bring attention to it as I would love to see this integrated.
That being said, if they're adding a section to the character sheet for familiars/companiins/wild shape forms and such, I imagine that you'll be able to view a list of options directly from that section. That would likely work almost as well.

I am one with the Force. The Force is with me.

So, Curse, any chance we could get “Familiar” tag for monsters? In addition to the ones listed in the spells, I know offhand of:
Almiraj in ToA
Flying Monkey in ToA
Gazer in Volo’s
Pseudodragon in MM
Tressym in SKT
And the ones I’m missing, of course.

These are all the options for familiars I could quickly find.

Thanks so much for this! Appreciate the effort this must have taken to also include page numbers!
Now that we have the Creatures section of the character sheet revamp, would this be possible, Curse?
