So, it's probably just a problem of mine due to reading comprehension, but here's the blurb of text for "Preserve Life" as it appears on your DnDBeyond Character sheet:
"As an action, you can use Channel Divinity and present your holy symbol to restore up to 35 HP divided among any creatures within 30 ft. up to half a creature's HP max. You can’t use this feature on an undead or a construct."
I took this as meaning: "the amount of HP restored to a target maxes out at half of it's total hp." (if an ally has 10/60HP, you can restore it to 40/60HP because 10+30(half the total) = 40.)
However, the rules section from the PHB actually states:
"As an action, you present your holy symbol and evoke healing energy that can restore a number of hit points equal to five times your cleric level. Choose any creatures within 30 feet of you, and divide those hit points among them. This feature can restore a creature to no more than half of its hit point maximum. You can’t use this feature on an undead or a construct."
(So, if an ally has 10/60HP, you can restore it up to 30/60, which is half of it's total.)
I think a better wording on the character sheet blurb for this action would be:
"As an action, you can use Channel Divinity and present your holy symbol to restore up to 35 HP divided among any creatures within 30 ft. You cannot restore a creature to over half of it's total HP. You can’t use this feature on an undead or a construct."
The full wording of that part of the feature is "Choose any creatures within 30 feet of you, and divide those hit points among them. This feature can restore a creature to no more than half of its hit point maximum." The confusion is due to the fact that DDB sometimes condenses wording on the sheet, with nothing to indicate that the wording is condensed, and the full wording can be viewed in the sidebar, leaving some people to trust they're reading a feature correctly and not thinking to double check by clicking on a feature and comparing the text to a sidebar. DDB could easily solve this by using something akin to the asterisk they use to indicate that a user has adjusted the wording or functionality of some part of the character sheet, alerting people to the fact that they need to check this wording against the full wording in the sidebar.
