[/ spell] (without the spaces of course) tags not function for my homebrew spells? They can be chosen for homebrew subclasses. I made a feature request for it it be the case a few days ago, but I wanted to pose the question here as well. In case I just wasn't well informed enough.
Tooltip tags don't work for any homebrew content. To link a homebrew spell that way, you'll have to use hyperlinks and style them to match. This will however prevent you from publishing the homebrew.
