Does anyone but me think D&D Beyond should make an app with tools for DMs? The player app is good for players and the compendium is good for reference, but there's nothing for the DM. I've found several apps with DM tools like campaign managers, dungeon generators, and even lists of adventure ideas. If D&D Beyond did make a DM tools app, they would pretty much have a monopoly on all things D&D.
I believe that those features have been put on the back burner as they perfect the player side first. They have pretty much stated that DM tools are something that are a long term plan and that they are more focused on the player side of things. Creating tools that the players and Dm can use to help play the game not nessisarialy building your world and run it. Although they are getting to those features very slowly. Too slow of you ask me.
They talked about putting a lot of thought into how it should work and understanding more about the most common playstyles. I have some ideas that might make the conceptual work easier:
I think there are far too many variables to make anything one-size-fits-all, which is why I think the key should be modularity.
*******.com has a really neat idea for a digital DM screen, where it's more like a dashboard. It could be a lot better though. With DDB going a similar route, I could imagine being able to pin different things based on what you need for your game. Maybe you need quick access to a random table from a published module you've purchased. Maybe you'd like a random name generator handy without having to switch tabs. Maybe you DON'T need the huge conditions panel that's in the middle of every official DM screen so far. Or maybe you do?
I could see it being like a phone screen with various widgets placed wherever you want instead of being locked into a set layout.
My dream is being able to open this hypothetical DM dashboard and run an entire season without having to switch to any other tabs or applications. The more stuff I need that I can have in front of my face at once and the less stuff I don't would make me a happy happy dungeon master. The inspiration will flow like wine!

This was discussed on the Dev Update today.
