So I'm playing an artificer - battle Smith, and I was just rolling from the steel defenders card stats in the extras tab. However, after reading more, I found out that I'm suppose to be using my spell attack modifier for its attack rolls. Now this stat card does have its HPs modified to match my stats as my steel Defender, but the attack and damage stats are not. Is this on purpose? Am I missing something?
The statblocks in Extras are almost completely wrong. DDB cannot properly pull info from your character sheet. Till they redesign their backend/fix those, you better track Steel Defender's stats in a notebook/notepad/excel/something other than the extras tab..
I found the same issue and decided that I'd fix it myself while we wait for the dev team to get around to it. Lets be honest, this is probably low priority. Anyway, I published a homebrew Steel Defender that you can add if you need it. I would copy it and edit it so you can have your own flair in it, as I have mine ( I have a mech-ostrich and renamed it's features.)
you will have to make some updates as you gain levels but they should be minor. Specifically, the attack and damage rolls are hard coded and the athletics skill has negative 3 to counter the expertise it gets. It's CR is 5 to adjust it's own PB which we need to affect the saving throws. Just make a mental note that it is still zero for any game effect that takes that into account.
hopefully that helps and/or makes sense.
EDIT: that was rejected. apparently they don't think that the changes warranted an addition to homebrews. either way you can copy the steel defender and make some adjustments.
