I wanted to verify if the current calculations are correct when using "Polearm Master - Bonus Attack" from my character sheet.
When reading the Polearm Master - Bonus Attack description it states "This attack uses the same ability modifier as the primary attack." but currently the Stat that is being used is Strength. Charisma is the correct ability modifier of the primary attack, plus the proficiency modifier and the proper weapon modifier (in my case a pact summoned glaive +1).
What is currently calculating on my character sheet when reading the "Polearm Master - Bonus Attack" is the Strength stat; my ability modifier for Strength is -1, so it is calculating using the -1 Strength stat instead of the Charisma stat of +4. It is also not taking into account the +1 for attack and damage of the weapon. So currently it states "To Hit: --" and "Damage: 1d4-1," unless I manually modify it. If I am interpreting the PHB properly it should read "To Hit: +7 (Charisma +4, Proficiency +2, Weapon +1) and "Damage: 1d4+5 (Charisma +4, Weapon +1).
Please let me know if I am interpreting this correctly.
I encountered the same issue with my hexblade. It should be using your charisma, not strength; I have been adjusting the attack/damage modifiers manually.
As I am a new player I had the discussion with my DM. I explained what I was seeing on D&D Beyond and we walked through it. As you stated regarding making manual adjustments, I just made notations so I can remember to make manual attack/damage modifier adjustments. It has become easier to make these adjustments on the fly since we are now around 4 weeks into our campaign. I just figured that D&D Beyond would want to correct this issue if it was brought to their attention--since no one from D&D Beyond has formally responded I assume they don't dig into bug reports. Thank you for your response, I do truly appreciate it.
You'd think that would be the case, especially now that DnDBeyond was officially acquired by WotC, wouldn't you?
Funny thing is that there USED to be a way to customize your weapon attacks, or at least create a custom attack that included both a stat type AND to hit/damage bonuses, but apparently that got tossed out about 3 or 4 years ago and DnDBeyond STILL hasn't come up with a solution that isn't from back in 2017.
