I thought that when the DM blocked shared content it would mean players couldn’t use character options, and I thought that homebrew content would only be shared if it was in the DM’s collection.
Some of the first time players in a campaign I’ve just joined have taken spells from Humblewood and one that I homebrewed for another campaign. Is there no way for the DM to turn sharing of these off centrally, or do I just have to tell every campaign that I join that they need to turn off homebrew and partnered content. I have a lot of both and they could easily get overwhelmed!
Is the DM seeing my homebrew monsters in the encounter builder as well?
All homebrew in everyone's collections is shared within a campaign. (Not sure about the monsters) This happens regardless of content sharing settings. (Yes, it's very annoying.)
Turning off access to the books only prevents reading the text; character builder stuff is still shared.
Neither of these have changed since I've been on the site, and probably they've always been this way.
For at least the past few years the sharing screen has stated that character options would be shared regardless of individual book sharing settings. They set it up this way so you can provide your players with character options without letting them see the book, and potential spoilers, from which the options were provided. If you don't want to share character options the only choices are to toggle off all of the optional sources in each player's character sheet, and trust them not to turn it back on, or completely turn off content sharing in the campaign.
Okay, thank you! I always thought that I was blocking character options from my party. I only blocked content sparingly so hadn’t seen that this was how it worked.
Good to know anyway. Would be great if DM’s had the ability to block individual books or spells where they wanted, but it’s pretty clear the Beyond team have more urgent matters to attend to right now!
