Enhanced Unarmed Strike. When you hit with your Unarmed Strike and deal damage, you can deal Bludgeoning damage equal to 1d4 plus your Strength modifier instead of the normal damage of an Unarmed Strike.
However, in the Character creation it uses the same mechanic as the Monk's unarmed Dexterity modifier and martial damage dice.
Also, the Character creator also let's use non-melee weapons (for example Crossbow) with proficiencies. The Monk's Feature, states:
Your practice of martial arts gives you mastery of combat styles that use your Unarmed Strike and Monk weapons, which are the following: Simple Melee weapons • Martial Melee weapons that have the Light property
So am I correct that these are bugs in the system, or is there/will there be some update to the PHB that gives the Monk the exceptions? I am told by others, when discussion, other things about Character Creation that, "just because it lets you do it, doesn't mean it's part of the rules". Thank you.

The weapon proficiencies granted by the Monk class (all simple weapons, plus all martial weapons that have the Light property) are not the same as the "Monk Weapons" you can use with the Martial Arts feature (simple melee weapons, plus martial melee weapons that have the Light property). This means that there are some weapons, such as light crossbows, that a Monk is proficient with but can't use their Martial Arts feature with. That's intentional and not a bug in the system.
I'm not really sure exactly what you're saying in the first part. Are you saying that if you have the Tavern Brawler feat, but are not a Monk, it's letting you use your Dexterity modifier for unarmed strikes? That would be a bug, though I'm not able to reproduce it myself.
