I am a bit confused on that.. When investigating it sounded to me that when 5e core and extended is ticked in the character builder this content should show up on 5.5 characters.
And it does.. but only partly?
when I create a 5e paladin, I get 8 Oaths. 4x 5e Core and 4x 5e extended when I create a 5.5 paladin, I only have 6 Oaths. 1x 5.5, 1x 5e and 4x 5e extended. What about the rest?
For other classes its even worse.
Even worse with spells, I have 0x 5e Core spells available on the same paladin. This doesn't seam right? I spent quite a bit of cash on source books and still the spell list is very short. Generally; creating a bunch of new characters and I just had to rely on "not setting up a subclass at all and adding them with pen on the printout later" which utterly defeats the purpose of ddb.
Am I missing something here?
I checked the entitlements check, thats all fine. And I own all the sourcebooks myself; this is also why I created a new thread, since the prior one I commented talked about shared content.
Per the rules of the 2024 PHB, the expectation is that if you’re using any of it, you should use all of it. On DDB, that means if you select an updated class from that book, you should select the updated subclasses and spells from that book as well. The outdated versions won’t be available to select.

That makes sense if the updated version is available to me, but if it isn't I should be able to use the stuff I paid money for imho, especially because as per the PHB 5.5 is compatible with 5E content.
And even if I own both, I should be able to choose what to use. Isnt that exactly why I am able to select which content to make available in the character builder?
Otherwise it is financially completely unfeasible to use ddb for 5.5 and I am kinda forced to stick with 5e, or ditch ddb. Is that really the intended outcome?
Edit: Additionally I am and always was able to choose species from prior revisions; 5e and lagacy show up just fine, even though there is a 5.5 version for them. Same for the 5e and 5.5 classes, the 5.5 did ot replace the old versions, they just appended to them. So why is it handled differently for spells and subclasses?
It seams absurd to me that my available spell list shrinks just because there is a 5.5 version of it.
Alternative would be that we get the 5.5 spells and subclasses for free that we have payed money for in 5e. As they are updates/revisions and not new ones anyway. But I guess that aint gonna happen.
Alright sure that would work, but why make than make it so troublesome for us? Its some switch in the background vs tens of hours of work for each of us who might need that.
dndbeyond earned its keep by making the bureaucracy of dnd easier; this flips the switch back, paper character sheets are easier again. The only thing keeping legacy users here is the lost cost fallacy, cause damn the amount of money I left on this site is staggering.
Wouldnt it be better to hold us here and upsell stuff to us? vs driving us away? I mean sheesh, if I have a 5e spell and the 5.5 revision is just better, it would be an easy decision to just buy the sourcebook. but when I am back to pen and paper, I am a hard target to get back and sell stuff to me. I switched my 5 year campaign to 5.5, since then we have to use alternative tools (or paper) more and more, making me stop my subscription.. This cant be in Hasbros favor can it?
But I am sure its not your call. Thank you anyway for the homebrew suggestion, at least thats a theoretical workaround.
If you've switched your whole campaign to the 5.5e rules, it does not seem unreasonable to imagine that at least one person in the group would purchase the 5.5e Player's Handbook, which would give you access to everything you're missing.
the person would also need to pay per months to be able to share though, and then the sourcebooks are fragmented. Also at the current state of this site I am not confident in suggesting anyone should spend money here, since the multiple hundred euros I spent here kinda lost their value, and I kinda regret it.
Its kinda sad actually this was quite flawless at some point. I guess Hasbro going to hasbro, back to pen and paper it is

Just to be clear, only one person in the campaign needs to have a master-tier subscription, and it does not need to be the same person who purchased the book. I don't quite know what you mean by "the sourcebooks are fragmented", though.
You can still use all the stuff you purchased before. You just can't also use new stuff without paying for that new stuff.

ModeratorIf you do want to use an older spell, you could make a homebrew copy of it and change its available classes.
Likewise, you could make a homebrew copy of an older subclass to see how it was set up, then rebuild it as a 5.5e subclass.
