Is there anyway to include some kind of PDF editor so we can move and/or resize inventory boxes or even attack actions as it only allows a few options. Not to mention spells only include the base text on where to find it but not what it actually does. ie damage or save DC would be nice.
Im adding to this aswell as the PDF export is woefully inadequate and unfortunately has been for years with very little improvements. All the issues with it have been mentioned above but what the devs need to do is put time and effort into resolving all this. or, is this DDB (now Wizards) way of sneakily trying not to improve 'paper' copies so they can move away from TTRPG and make D&D all online?
I run sessions for youngsters who don't have smart devices, so I have no choice but to print their sheet like old school D&D.
But as mentioned, the character sheet printouts are horrible:
- Because the character sheet design uses different shades of shades of grey (labels and section headings), when it is printed, the kids can't even read things. Heck, they can't even tell what each currency is (gp, sp, cp, etc) because it is too light. - Some sections are way too small to read. - As far as racial and class features, please only put relevant and simplified information that pertains to actual gameplay in there. We don't need to know all the stuff we needed to know when creating the character.. The way it currently is, you pack everything into those boxes and not only does it overwhelm, but it too small and confuses new players. - My daughter who plays a sorcerer, is terribly confused with her spell sheet. It wasn't obvious that she had slots because each spell has a "prepared" circle to check off, so she was checking them off thinking she cast that spell and it is now gone. It wasn't obvious that she had spell slots to check off for each level. So I guess what I am saying is to have spell sheets specifically tailored for each class, not one sheet that fits all classes. - Include a simplified spell description so that youngsters have a clue on what the sort of does. That could easily go under the current spell information, on its own line. As it is right now, young spell casters take way too long because they look at their sheets and try to remember what each spell does. - Inventory sheet needs to be its own full page.
I don't know, maybe you should just scrap the whole sheet as it is and start over. I've been playing D&D for over 30 years, and I have seen much better character sheet apps (most free or Excel) out there that do a much better job than DNDB (which I pay a lot of money for monthly).
Agreed, much truncated info all over the printed version of har sheet. Please add feature to have lists spill onto extra pages or better yet to choose layout element sizes and position.
Unfortunately DDB, who made a lot of improvements with this software over the past few years, did nothing or the bare minimum when it came to a paper copy of the character sheet. And since WotC bought DDB, they havent even done any dev work on this software!! Its yet another sign Wizards want to move everything online and shrug their collective shoulders at playing D&D around a table with friends. Yes you can still do that with the app but a lot of people still like a hard copy at that table! An export of the character sheet is STILL important Wizards so do something about it!!!
When I print off character sheet for magic users (currently playing a cleric) but can't find any circles to fill in or other ways to track spell slots. There's a place on every other character sheet I can find for this ... but not on the character sheet printed from dndbeyond. Am I just not looking in the right place?
I did not notice until today but ALL the sheets I have exported for several years are blank. How is it possible that such a problem has been going on for years?
Yep, nothing is going to change with this as its to do with playing around a table. Wizards aren't interested in anything other than Sigil and turning D&D into BG3. I doubt anyone from Wizards even looks at these forums anymore!
Why are we paying subscription fees again? If you are only bringing in enough income to maintain site features, then raise your rates and FIX THINGS. I shouldn't have to manually modify exported character sheets every time to make sure equipment makes it into the sheet, that text is readable, etc.
2025 (AUG) - Still an unsolved issue. A full equipment list from the D&D Beyond EXPORT function to PDF would make the utility/application useful. The problem persists, even with ADOBE's software... Unlike 'spamandtuna's (moderator) comment, the browser is not the issue; the exported PDF is. And even when the items show up on the display and are then printed, stuff is not showing up correctly. At times, it just duplicates the items to the next page's empty box space. In addition, the listing in the printout cannot sort items into their right locations, such as backpack, bag of holding etc.

I am also facing a similar issue. A lot of text that exceeds the space allotted isn't visible after printing the pdf. I hope this is fixed soon.
If I'm using paper copies I use the automated sheets from here https://www.flapkan.com/

This is still an issue, should be simple to fix for the PDF-export function, to get a full list of equipment on paper too.
2023 - Still an unsolved issue. A full equipment list from the D&D Beyond EXPORT function to PDF would make the utility/application useful.
Still an issue.
I'd give up now. Wizards aren't interested in fixing this issue as they don't want you gaming around a table. For them it's all about digital!

The year is 2025.
The issue is the same and (at a wild guess) will STAY the same....

You might be opening it in an incompatible PDF viewer. You might try opening it in Adobe Acrobat or another web browser instead.
