"When you adopt this tradition at 2nd level, you gain proficiency with light armor, and you gain proficiency with one type of one-handed melee weapon of your choice."
This may just be a clarification issue but I'd like to explain the issue and let you be the judge. So the issue specifically is the "gain proficiency with one type of one-handed melee weapon" is appropriated for a single weapon -- not a type. In the Sword Coast Guide, it sources several different Arcane/Martial Art styles, that reference several weapons per type.

When you choose a type in that dropdown you would be proficient will all weapons that are of that "base" type. Hope that answers your question. If you still need clarification could you give me an example of a given option, and what weapons would be proficient? Thanks
