The really frustrating part is that there are two different locations to look up item stats. The icon says "items", but the search goes into "magical items". All enchanted items are just variants of the base weapon, which we cannot see on the "items" tab. However you want to model it on the backend, whatever, but the UI presentation is pretty lacking at the moment.
You will find regular items under the compendium. They are all fairly basic stuff so I personally do not think they need entries in the "items" list which is just for all magical items.
But I can see your confusion because the tab says "Items" not "Magic Items"
I know where they are, I'm saying that it's annoying to have to search in multiple locations for stats on items.
I think when it comes to the character builder, it will auto fill that info in. But if you will not be using the character builder then yeah, that can be very frustrating.
Posted this in another similar thread, but yes, the character builder is designed to allow players to equip specific items and those items will automatically apply modifiers to attacks (like a weapon), or resistances (like for armor), etc., etc. But, I've seen enough feedback about how that 'dirties' up the items listing for brows-ability, so we will improve that. It may not be like next week, but we will tackle it.
This is part of the reason we were adamant about doing a controlled beta for the product. So we'd have time to get these features in your hands and you could tell us what works and what doesn't, and we'd have time to make changes in a thoughtful way that wasn't rushed.
I love seeing all of your ideas and suggestions, and it's a great help! Please keep them coming!
