There are twothree four simple things I want from DND Beyond:
1. Sidekicks - easily created from the DNDB character creation wizard.
2. Third part content integration - If DNDB is going to the be the central hub for all things playing DND, then start making some deals to have the most common ones like Kobold Press and Ghostfire Games.
3. Genuine VTT support. - Above VTT is doing the simple job DNDB could do. It's great as a program that uses the DNDB api over your browser but limited by their 3rd party/labor of love status. DNDB could do better instantly by coopting the Above VTT platform and then functioning on more media with the same general features. Rolling out the Unreal engine VTT version with 3D character minis can wait (I frankly don't care if that ever comes out).
4. Quick NPC generator: I can make infinite characters for my campaign with my Master Tier Subscription, why not non-player characters? Both of those are/would be useful to me as a DM.
As a person who does no coding these seem like super easy asks. I expect them to be available to me personally tomorrow, you can roll them out publicly whenever /s
As a person who is primarily a DM, I want to see DNDB make more of an effort to cater to and support DMs. Sure the majority of people are players but without DMs there aren't any games for players to join.
As a side note: DNDB feedback functionality is archaic and clunky. If it was easy to find a more appropriate spot to put this thread it would already be there.
My hope is that some DNDB dev actually sees this and relates it back to someone who can actually implement solutions. My additional hope is that people bandwagon with me and propose even more (reasonable) ideas that could make DNDB even better for DMs (especially DMs) and players.
Pt.2- while WOTC might not make as much profit from them as in house developed content the market for 3rd party products exists and is flourishing without WOTC making money on it. If they were to strike some deals with other content creators they could vastly increase the offerings available on their platform, monetize products that they spent no money to develop, and further cement DNDB as THE one stop location for DND content.
Pt.3- you're probably right. I eluded to the VTT they are working on in my post so I am aware of it; only my hope is that they would take the work already completed by Above VTT and co-opt it to provide an integrated VTT in the interim. All things considered the 2024 release of their proprietary VTT (which I imagine will be full of micro transactions) will almost undoubtedly supercede any thoughts of providing a "good enough" solution in the present.
Pt.4- I already do this. It would just be smoother and more manageable to have a native UI function for this. To both save me time, and increase my ability to perform common DMing functions on the fly without a need to sift through heaps of sketchy homebrew or rely on third party tools to do the job for them.
One thing I wouldn't mind is a shop section, where I can buy customizable backgrounds and stuff for my character sheets. I mean, I can buy dice, but not backgrounds? Come on.

2. You worded it well! If i think about it, if i pay 10 bucks more for a fully supported book on dndbeyond from a third party that would be worth it. Saves me a lot of time and gives me more options!
3. I don’t get why they opted to design their own table fully instead of buying a company that already has a big design done. They bought DNDBeyond instead of doing it themselves…
4. True. I think a few DM’s would be happy to have some random generators as a extra tool.

...you can, though?
Go to the sourcebook of the background/spell/feat/feature/whatever that you want to get, and buy it from that page.

Leaving OGL 1.0(a) untouched and making SRD 5.1 CC-BY-4.0 is a great first step. The next is a promise to do the same for future editions. Here's a discussion thread on that.

He meant for the Character sheet. You can't currently buy Frames, Themes, or backgrounds but you can buy dice.

Pretty much this, and it's a right shame. I want a kobold-inspired background, dangit! D:<

Point 2 is probably never going to happen as DNDBeyond is owned by WOTC and will probably focus on that line of products.
Point 3 will also be likely not going to happen as WOTC is creating it’s own virtual TableTop for players/DM’s
Point 4, why not homebrew them? Or look into stuff other people already made. Copy a commoner and change a few key statistics that you need.
Thanks for your response!
