Anyone heard anything new about the things that Fandom was working on before the acquistion?
The dev updates showed they were testing shared containers, planning on rolling out the updated feature system, and updated tools for our homebrew pleasure. The last major change was making containers and refining the way we create and store custom items.
But since then, nothing has changed. Only tweaks to the mobile system and new backgrounds.
I'm actually at this point glad I canceled my subscription, because this incarnation of DNDBeyond isn't producing as much new features as the pre-acquisition DNDBeyond. Current events likely lead me to conclude all the cool new features are going to be locked behind a OneDND paywall.
They really need to reconsider this, with Demiplane making Pathfinder more accessible - and bringing other TTRPG systems into the fold (which DNDBeyond wanted to do previously) this site will begin to lose its viability. All us 5e users who invested in DNDBeyond will be offered the chance to repurchase all our books for 5.5/6/One DND - and with the trend being what it is - it might be best to pack up our stuff and invest in something else.
Who knows. Pretty sure WotC started laying off the old DDB staff and that is why we haven't had any dev updates.
It is possible that the new management has no intentions of adding features to the current DDB and only intend to put their resources into 1D&D's VTT.
If that IS the case, they're clearly intent on destroying the company from the ground up. With all the things that D&DB subbers were asking for or told were in the pipeline, ON TOP of the things currently happening community-wise, this would be a horrible decision.
I'd guess that all the DDB developers have been brought over to the VTT project and there is a "skeletal crew" maintaining DDB and the mobile apps. It's too bad, encounters and combat are maybe 70% done. Creatures got a good start but really need to be able to roll/track health etc.
My other guess is that new player and DM "apps" will launch with the VTT.

imo it doesn't make any sense. Going from making some fancy website into an entire VTT, that's totally different skillsets.
And it's not like a vtt is special in that regards. The current dev team can perfectly continue to work on their features as a VTT is nothing more but a graphic overlay.

> handing out loot? backend code can also be just for both a simple website and slapped into a VTT box
I kept on paying for DDB because i wanted to believe in the project. They haven't released any new features for like more than 2 years now. 2 effing years... it's just sad as hell.
I really just want to see that they are working on it. Every time they talk about this “Generic homebrew” stuff, they always say it’s almost done. The first time I heard this was like, a year ago. Where is it? And we need homebrew folders, but they never acknowledge that. And it seems like they never even look in the request and vote for new features thread. There is SO many things about DDB I could go on about, but it’s really not worth it right now. One of which, btw, is how cluttered the public homebrew stuff, there are SO MANY of them which either cleverly bypass the rules or literally full on break them. WE NEED TO KNOW WHATS HAPPENING!
I just wanted folders for my Characters. "we are working on it" was the response when I first signed up 3 years ago..... My sub was due for renewal yesterday, I had previously cancelled.

With the announcement of the VTT, it makes sense for all the work on encounters and containers to pause, as what they had been working on may not be compatible with that project.
It would be great though if they gave us a dev diary or something similar so we knew what they were working on.

Why would it make sense? It's not what ppl signed up for. People wanted a working website with some character and campaign and source management. Not waiting for 2 years and then hear "oh yea we gonna drop this completely new project on you guys, it's gonna be awesome..."
Speaking of which, it's been 6 months since that VTT anouncement and they have nothing (yet) to show for it.

Last time I check Beyond is a working website, which has character, campaign, and source management.
And it makes complete sense as to why the beta encounter system may not be compatible with a fully-fledged interactive VTT based on the Unreal Engine... they're completely different systems. It's a huge undertaking to build all the assets and link everything together, I'd love a demo version to play with but I can understand why it's taking so long.

For the VTT, web programmers aren't necessarily good at 3D design.
It is more likely that the DDB developers have been brought over to Nexus (since that's where the co-founder went).

Good things take time.
Their encounter thing is like 3 years or so in beta. How can you keep on defending this :)
Campaign management? Being able to put characters in a campaign is not exactly what I'd call "campaign management". Have you ever used these tools as a DM ?
Their "source management" is not fully finished as you still have to input some of the source material manually, their search engine is just awful. There is a LOT to improve on this website. People just were quite okay with it and gave support because it felt like the right thing to do. But now that WotC reared its ugly head on the OGL thing, the gloves just come off and people aren't nice anymore about this very inadequate website.
Also with the VTT: we were promised an apple pie and then they came along and promised some big chocolate cake with ice cream on top. All is very good and well and I'm a fan of chocolate cake... but I originally signed up for apple pie. And as said: it doesn't necessarily make sense to put web devs on some 3d/isometric map project, it's a completely different skill set.
I just wanted folders for my characters. 2 years ago they said they were working on that. Its almost like the same devs that work for roll20....."its our top priority...."

It pronounced Den Sake. It is not Japanese.
Website character sheet not working fix (Hopefully)
Semi-Expert at homebrew, just ask for my help.

I agree with them
I agree with Densake
