As a brand new DM who literally had my first session last week running a custom little starters quest i put together I must say this is a great platform of information you are building.
My players are new as well, so since we are ALL noobs (I use to play MERP ) we noticed a lot of momentum can be lost when one has to troll through players handbook, DM Guide, Monster handbook to check or double check rules, stats, spells etc.
Without even using DandD beyond yet (I certainly will next session you can bet on that), I can already tell this will be invaluable!!!
The presentaion of information is easy to consume and easy to find and i can already tell you this will help massively in keeping the 'momentum' up and keeping everyone engaged as information is now literally at our fingertips. Great work and a big thanks from a new DandD DM!!!
Great feedback is always useful to the devs. Is there anything in particular you really liked? That lets them know to continue doing things in that way. Welcome to the forums!
At the moment there is several things I like. For me and my players the rules Index is clear and concise and easy to use, this will save us massive amounts of time in regards to referring to rules. These moments were play stops and someone is flicking through a book really has a chance to disengage some players sometimes, but this site really fights against that.
The Bestiary for me as a DM will be amazingly useful, I do a lot of random encounters and being able to quickly define a Challenge level and the environment like grasslands/desert etc to quickly come up with a list of creatures to use for these encounters again is extremely useful. I cannot wait to use these in our next session. In fact not only for random encounters but for set pieces in adventures that i design. Instead of reading through the whole Monsters handbook looking for creatures common in the forest i simply use the filters and vwah lah...a list of forest creatures at the right challenge as well. Im sure this will be the same experience with the Items.
The other 'momentum stopper' for my new group is the spell book , as we are still getting use to our characters abilities and since we are all working during the day the boys cant do there homework so to speak so we have to keep referring to the spell section of the players handbook until we get used to our capabilities. So I am excited about the spells section that they will also put together.
What I really really really would love as a suggestion is a digital map of the Forgotten Realms and the abiltiy for me as a DM to add markers (for quests and encounters ) and also a marker for where the party is so i can track the travelling aspect of the game.....now that would be amazing!
