The fact that infusions aren't items anymore (they were while the Artificer was in UA) made the following things impossible, the three of which I was using regularly:
giving another player character an infusion you've created
using the infusions as regular, permanent magic items (no artificer in the party I DM for, but I gave the paladin a radiant greatsword because it's just the perfect paladin weapon)
making a homebrew artificer with more infusions than normal
I believe they're still working on ways of 'gifting' infusions that fit in with the current, permanent system. The UA system was a quick and dirty approach, so I'd keep your eyes peeled for a new, better implementation

This is a concern of mine too. Since infusions are not meant to be hoarded, they must be planning to fix this (at some point, hopefully soon).
This was never an intended feature. If you want them to be a regular magic item you will have to make them in homebrew (which is also a work around for problem 1).
There are a number of classes with features we would like to homebrew (fighting styles, metamagic, eldritch invocations, pact boons). They are planned to be supported in the future. This is just one more feature on that list.
any idea if they plan to let us make custom infusions? also a spell sniper feats for artificer magic initiate for artificer and a feat to allow you to make one or 2 infusions just like magic initiate but for infusions instead of cantrips.

This will probably happen in the future. There is already a plan to allow custom metamagic, fighting styles, eldritch invocations, pact boons (basically everything that just came out in the class features UA...). So homebrew infusions seems to fall in with those.

Technically the artificer is a half caster and none of the other half casters have magic initiate or spell snipers (then again, they don't have cantrips either, so who knows).
I really like the infusion feat idea. Its like martial adept. You can learn 2 level 2 infusions and have 1 infused at a time.
spell sniper is split by casting modifier attribute for the other classes. Bard and warlock are included with sorcerer so should artificer be tied to the wizard spell sniper. Also the half casters are split into two categories, those who got spells at lvl 1 (artificers, bards, warlocks) and those that get spells at lvl 3 (eldritch knight, paladin, rangers and arcane trickster. All the ones with spells at lvl 1 have a spell sniper feat except artificer (hopefully because they just haven’t gotten to it yet). But that’s what custom feats are for.

Bards and warlocks are full casters (warlock is a bit special, but it can cast level 3 spells at level 5 same as full casters. Eldritch knights and arcane tricksters are third casters, they get spellcasting at level 3 and never get level 5 spells. Paladins, rangers, and artificers are the half casters, and none of them have magic initiate.

The hope for magic initiate for artificer would be for 2 cantrips and one infusion instead of a first lvl spell.

I actually would love for the infusion items to be added back, as I never realized they were just for infusions. My players had used some of them.
