We have some great news today! We are inviting everyone to an epic journey with our mobile app. Yes, the app is now RELEASED and is currently available on the App Store and Google Play for EVERYONE.
Please remember that the app is still maturing and we are working hard to provide as much parity with the web as possible.
In case you cannot find a native option in the app, you can use the View Character on Website option to swiftly open the character sheet on dndbeyond.com without leaving the app. All the changes you make on the website will then synchronise with the app (if you are online).
What are we working on right now?
What are our next steps?
Currency management
Spell and Equipment management
Extras section
Other features
What will likely not be available in this development cycle but is still on our backlog?
Our ultimate goal is to let you access and edit nearly all the details which you can interact with on the web. After the aforementioned items are delivered, we are going to focus on the options to manage the UI.
***
We do hope you are going to love the app and find it useful in your D&D sessions.
Thank you very much for all your feedback, support and patience.
How to provide feedback?
As always, your feedback is valued as a huge driving force behind what we do at D&D Beyond. After you give the Player app a try, you can share your feedback in three different ways:
The D&D Beyond Player app forum - you’re here! The #ddb-feedback channel in Discord Thanks again for your help - we look forward to the updates to come!
Thanks, Just downloaded it. I would like to see a way to order the character or search via tags or by campaign. That, missing sections and 3d roller would make it for me. Impatiently waiting but a great job has been done so far by you and your team.
Recently we have been focusing on some under-the-hood improvements to make the app faster and better. What are our next steps?
Very soon we would be releasing a new version with sorting characters on My Characters, descriptions for conditions + some minor bug fixes and improvements
Soon: Descriptions for spells and equipment
Ability to activate/deactivate equipment and attuned items
The still-missing sections - Description, Notes and Extras
We are also going to be working hard on 3D dice as well as addressing your feedback with bugs and minor improvements.
These all seem like must-have features. Looking forward to this functionality being added to the new app!
Feedback: Loving the ability to access my characters offline! I am having some minor issues with the Android app's text layout. Words are cut off and placement of some stats are out of alignment. Android 10 on Samsung Galaxy S10, Kernel 4.14.117-18242889, software is up to date.
I’m having problems with the login on the player app. How would I go about linking my account? I already had Twitch linked and thought I could sign in to gmail or Apple to link that as well. Now it just says that my account is already used.
Not to nitpick, but it seems like the app isn't ready for a full launch. Did this get launched early due to the restricted access issues with the app in hopes more would be able to test it? I kept trying to use the Alpha, but with the missing features, it's been hard to use it over the website for game nights.
I'd like the option to archive characters, both on the app and the site. I don't want to throw away the character sheet for the barbarian I played for 18 levels, but I don't really need to look at it very often.
Fantastic job to all involved. I'm excited to have my character sheet accessible on my iPad the next time my group plays so I can split-screen Discord and our VTT.
Thanks. The environment works great on my PC but not so much on the app. I cannot create characters nor can I access my character sheets I created on my PC. When do you think the app will be more than just a place for research?
I was just going to ask for sorting for characters and the missing sections, but it looks like you’ve got that coming. It’s great from what I’ve seen and I look forward to further updates.
Ooh, it would also be great if you added themes like on the website.
Didn’t realize that spell descriptions were missing. That is definitely important.
I’d also love to see the advantage and disadvantage on skills.
This is really great. Can't wait to see the new features to make it even better.
Some of my custom character portraits are being squished in the app when they're not squished on the website. I think it's the ones that weren't square when I uploaded them.
I would love to see icons on the Defenses like there are on Conditions.
I just downloaded the app, and it's nice. Has a nice monochrome theme. Most stuff works. But...
Using the character sheet viewer in a standard mobile browser (I've used Chrome's mobile app and DuckDuckGo's) is way better. It does everything the full desktop browser does and you can change the themes, backgrounds, etc. And it has no missing features. It even does the new dice rolling feature. And you can access any of the books you've unlocked as well as any other reference, monsters, magic items, vehicles, etc. Maybe this is coming in the app, but it's already baked into the web version, which you can access nicely from your preferred mobile web browser.
Saw someone mention that you can access your characters off line, and yeah, that's okay, but for me, I'm rarely without some sort of signal on my phone, unless I'm flying, which with the pandemic, not so much. And yes, people in extreme rural areas might benefit from this when the get away from their home wifi or a cell tower.
So really my question is, you've already developed and excellent, working, mobile version in a mobile browser, why all this development time and effort for what is essentially an inferior duplicate? or when it is fully-featured a duplicate. Then you have to maintenance and provide customer service for both?
And if this app benefits you, absolutely. DnDBeyond is fantastic. But I'm just not seeing the benefits, or rather the benefits of using a dedicated app (or as some have mentioned 2 since the compendium app stores your purchased books) over just using the web version, which I'm assuming DnDBeyond was built for.
Anyway, I am a huge fan. I love the Website (desktop, tablet, and mobile). So, keep up the good work!
Sad to see that, even on a decent sized screen (I use a large iPad Pro), the character sheet is still split into multiple sections. One of the great things about the web version is that everything is right in front of you, similar to a physical character sheet. Are there any plans for optimisation for larger screens?
Rule broken - "If the character has advantage on the check, add 5. For disadvantage, subtract 5." --- PHB Chapter 7 under passive ability checks.
If you add a level of exhaustion (giving disadvantage to all ability checks) it is not reflected in the character sheets passive investigation/perception/insight numbers)
Sadly this is true from the web version as well as the player app.
I noticed that character profile pictures seem distorted when compared to the Digital Counterpart,
Might be just an issue for me, but just thought I would mention it anyway.
This app is amazing, I've been waiting for an app like it since I joined D&D Beyond, and now I can. Thanks so much to the hard work of the teams that made this app for the community and my own enjoyment.

I might be the exception, but i wish the compendium and the player companion apps were the same app and not 2 separate apps.
If we were in the alpha, do we need to uninstall and reinstall? Or is the version I have right now the same?
AD
The App Store version will override the alpha version. It is nearly the same.

One more little thing - it would be great to edit the charges of items on the app.

I really love D&D Beyond's Player App so far,

I'm very excited. I'm loving the first release. Only problem I saw was a minor spelling mistake. Then I realized it was my own homebrew misspelling...
Please, for the love of the gods, tell me how am I to balance DnD with the family and my son's travel hockey? HALP!
