I had this flash back after watching some YouTube on rewards for players. Thinking of the Artificer I was like yeah. In the 1980's film Ladyhawke, Rutger Hauer's character had a double barrel crossbow. I was like cool, easy to modify, faster shooting, longer reload. But something special!
I'm sure some 1980's Sword and Wizard fantasy movies had a sword that could shoot a dart or dagger? If you know of the movie please link! Also what other cool items that are non magical that would easily fit into this concept?
I'm on a mission to watch as much cheesy 1980's sword and wizard B-grade films for ideas!!
Steel Dawn. Main character had a sword with a long handle that could be wielded with one or two hands, but the bottom half of the handle concealed a hidden blade in the tang. In the final fight, he pulled off the handle and stabbed the bad guy with the hidden blade.
Make a great sword that, once per long rest, the user can use the hidden blade that does 1d4 Damage as a second attack, with advantage on that strike.
Alternately, it could be a long sword that the user wields 2-handed (Versatile). Once per encounter, he could drop the damage to 1d8, which would allow him to make the second, surprise strike with the hidden dagger. (1d4 with advantage). As the player levels up, you could add poison or elemental damage to the hidden dagger.

The Sword and the Sorceror maybe...triple bladed sword that could fire blades? Certainly looks sufficiently cheesy!
Other ideas:
- Rope-firing crossbow with mini-grapples
- Flip open monocular (its on one of the I’d software Rage trailers), lower perception DC?
- Crossbow that fires mini saw-blades for cutting ropes, good for pirating?
- Heel blades on boots for escape, poisoned for extra flavour
Good luck!

A hat with with blades that can come out of the brim, plus it's throwable.
Mystic v3 should be official, nuff said.
