To OP: The sad thing for me is that almost every spell casting class in 5e makes a better necromancer than a Wizard Necromancer so, that said, as an alternative have you thought about going singleclassed Lore Bard? Go for a "Dirge Singer" build hwhere you use music/singing to call the shades of the dead to fight for you/protect others.
Taking what you put in post #20 and Assuming standard arry to generate ability scores you could have;
Str: 8, Dex:15, Cons:14, Int: 10, Wis:12, Cha:16 (these include Human vaiant buffs into Dex and Cha, taking Moderately Armourd as a free feat which gives you a further+1 Dex and proficiency with medium armour and shields) and you still have AC18 at level 1 if you can start with a Breastplate and Shield, worst case use your starting cash to buy scale maiil which gives the same AC but also disadvantage on stealth checks and upgrade when the oppotunity arises.
You can use your Bardic Inspiration in a similar manner to Battlemaster superioirty dice to buff allies or debuff opponents attacks.
You get Magic Secrets at level 6 which means you can nab Animate Dead and Spirit Guardians, this gives you physical undead as you need but also you can flavour spirit guardians as wraith-like undead flitting around you in a protective shield. You'll also get more secrests at level 10, 14 and 18 so you can really fill out the spell list in what ever way you end up needing.
You'll hit all your ASI or Feats, you are a full caster so get all your spell slots and your average HP over 20 levels would be on par with a 10 fighter/10 wizard build but you'll have more skills and more versatility.
Your DM is going to hate you. We had a powergamer in our group, who was a High Elf Necromancer. As a DM, I hated the idea, but had the pleasure to sit back, keep my mouth shut, and watch the other players come down hard on this char, detailing all the things that char could not do with their army of the undead. The other characters created in-game house rules that severely curtailed what that Necromancer could do. And yes, this player left our group, and I did not have to say a word about it.
Do yourself a favour, and don't play that subclass. Many NPC's, and PC's, will automatically deem you evil, which can and will lead to in-game conflict. And lastly, when I see these threads about all these chars built out to level 20, I just roll my eyes. Unless your group is starting at level 8 or 9, the chances of your char reaching level 20 are vanishingly small. Choose a char class path that is fun to play NOW, and one that will be fun to play at every level.
Actually know my DM, he will HATE my character for sure! I almost forgot this point! Than you for the reminder. :)

So you are actively trying to create a char that your DM will hate?

Short answer: No. I have other single class characters sitting there quietly. Long Answer: No. It´s becasue we know him. Let´s say that patience is not his best quality. We´ve been asking for an elephant mount for like a year each time we play, and we can notice his impatience from his reactions. Still, it´s fun to tease him a little!
Since we are having 3 hours of game each week, the rest of the week I´d read and try to learn about other classes due to my lack of experience. My real goal is not to cause any trouble, but to learn about the basics, race, class, spells, etc... in order to be a decent DM and play D&D with my kids in the near future.
