The original lore said "the dark skinned elves went evil", whereas with the new lore, it is simply that some of the elves went to live in the underdark, and as a result their skin turned colourless.
Did it? I don't think it did. My recollection is that the drow were originally coloured much like any other group of (surface) elves and they only became dark-skinned with light hair as part of being cursed (or as a result of the ritual, possibly not technically a curse). It's been a long while since I last looked up anything related to their origins though.
The underdark doesn't turn things black (to avoid getting into weird weeds about what you mean by "colourless"; traditionally shaded Drow skin is a matte black, absorbing essentially all photons in the visual spectrum). Drow were black before they went into the Underdark. The 5E version of this is in MTF, and according to it (specific details always change every edition), the Drow, like all elves, have the bodies they do now because that's what they were running around in when Corellon cursed all elves to forevermore be locked into their bodies instead of constantly changing like good elves should. The Drow at the time happened to also be the set of elves loyal to Lolth, but she didn't change their skin color - they did, and Corellon locked it in.
"Your kin tend to have stark white hair and grayish skin of many hues."
Nothing in that sentence says "you can't be black". All those synonyms for black in your first post are part of the broad category "grayish". That category simple includes shades other than black, as well. Like I said - every color of the greynbow.
As well, you may want to rely on primary sources rather than sensationalist clickbait media websites like Bell of Lost Souls if you're going to try and goad people into forum fights. Tends to be more effective.
I'm not goading anyone into a fight. This is a general discussion forum. I'm discussing a design change that was deemed as "inappropriate language". It's laughable. Silly.
I'm finding this forum to be a bit aggressive and snarky. Ya'll do you. It's all good.
You wanted to cause an issue and you got it. Don't gaslight people.
I can't even figure out what "design change" he wants to talk about. Seems like nothing has changed to me.

I'm probably laughing.
It is apparently so hard to program Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul spell-swapping into dndbeyond they had to remake the game without it rather than implement it.
The thread was mostly handled and had moved on from that point, gentlemen. No need to rake the man over the coals for a decision he's already been raked for. At this point we can discuss the merits of black drow versus grey drow if it's truly important, but let's try to avoid picking more fights.
