They made all player races have mandatory floating ASIs. They removed alignment suggestions from player races. They removed negative racial trairs (to my recall, sunlight sensitivity). To be honest, the vast majority of upset wasn't to do with the physical book - it was that they weren't communicating whether Volo's and Mordenkainen's would receive updates for free or not. Turns out that they're charging for it, so that's okay.
