Will the generic feature system enable a character setting/toggle for Spell Points instead of Spell Slots (DMG)?
Asking the wrong people, and honestly you're not gonna get an answer. D&D Beyond as a site is so vague on features until they come out and considering we are missing things like Epic Boons and what feels like it should be a simple 9th level Mystic Arcanum for Genie Warlocks? I doubt very seriously spell points are on anyones radar.
Having played other games in which there was a spell point system, I can say that changing from slots to points often resulted in a big change in game play. Most of the time it was positive but sometimes it was not.

DDB doesn't give ETAs on updates. Since this hasn't been in the several years of the site's existence and it being a thing from the DMG, it likely isn't going to show up at all or at least it will show up several years later once they've gotten a bunch of other shit finished.
BIg Fan of Spell Points. coincidentally, DMsGuild has Universal Spell Points that provide the same spell-power per day as the DMG system without being difficult to math out and addresses things like how to adjust for spell points using smite, etc.... which DMG doesn't resolve. DmsGuild also has Spell Point Warlocks that provides short rest pact magic points and arcanum points calibrated to the DMG scaling, which the DMG has also neglected, as well as translation into Universal Spell Points
And DMsGuild has 5 color mana to use with MTG-inspired settings.
These are all cover-to-cover free to preview. Check em out!
For those who may be interested, I wrote a userscript a few years back that allows you to use spell points in an integrated way with DnDBeyond, and still works: https://github.com/Mwr247/DnDBeyondSpellPointsV2
After discussing with my DM I switched back from spell points to spell slots. In our campaign we don’t have a lot of combat, and not that much need to cast a lot of high lvl spells in social encounters. So my DM had to start balancing around me constantly throwing around 5 fifth level fire balls or inflict wounds at lvl 9. Which is rather damaging…
I didn’t like overclassing the others that much so I switched back.
Which is the problem with a pool system in a game balanced around tiered levels; if there’s no check on your ability to throw big punches, the meta naturally becomes about throwing as many as possible, and the rest of the system isn’t balanced for that kind of damage output. Particularly as most campaigns are already notably lighter on encounters per day than initially envisioned, compounding the force multiplication.

I like a good spell point system. I also like the D and D memory spell slot system. Both systems have good points about them.

Y'all are wasting your time. This has been 2 years in the making. It doesn't exist. It isn't going to exist.
I'm willing to bet that DnDone will be released and all development on ******** ended before we get spell points.
