So, what I'm wanting to do is run a list of characters through some old and new D&D modules via some sort of online program/software. I've used Tabletop Simulator before so I'm familiar with it and I know people use it for DnD. I know I can import most maps, throw down some objects if needed and some mini's and off I go. However, after viewing some videos and seeing 3d maps I squealed like a 4 year old in a candy store. After more research, I quickly realised that it's not super easy to do this, but nonetheless, it's something I'd like to explore.
I've looked at multiple map making software and I've narrowed it down to Dungeondraft. It looks like it's intuitive enough for someone of my limited ability. However upon more research I came across Dungeon Alchemist and it looks amazing. The 3d isometric map making seems pretty intuitive even for a map making noob like me, however, it will NOT work in TTS. So, here I am asking the super knowledgeable VTT folks which program/software should I be looking that has the ability to use 2d/3d maps?
As a caveat, I wanted to say I WILL NOT be running games with other players. It's just me and I do not want to just use pencil/paper. I like the visuals of virtual gaming and I'm willing to put in some time to learn, but in the end, I'd prefer something a little more user friendly.
I have briefly looked at Map Tools, but I'm not sure if this has the ability to handle what I'm wanting to do, but that's as far as I've gotten. I will admit, I'm a bit overwhelmed as there are so many options, but I'm eager to get going on this little project.
Thank you all for your time and more importantly your advice.
For the 3D side of things, there's also Talespire, which include vtt-like abilities (which I have not tested myself). Exchange of "maps" is surprisingly easy, and there are many great builds available through tales tavern.
This can work well if you are using it purely for visuals/navigation.
But if you are looking to bring the maps in tts or similar, then this is not the solution - then I reckon 2D map makers will be the way forward.
FoundryVTT is a 2D VTT at it's core. However, there are community developers that are modding its canvas to display 3D maps. Have not used myself, but I know of them, so take this with a grain of salt.

So, I JUST watched a couple videos about Talespire and I might give that a look down the road. The only thing that I hesitate on is that I'd have to make most of all the maps I'd need as I doubt there will be a repository full of D&D module maps and I can't import into Talespire. But, this software looks amazing and I'm going to keep an eye on it.

Foundry does look great but since I'm not DM'ing any games I think it's overkill for me. I really think it's best I keep things simple for now. Since I'm just needing something for personal (solo gaming) use, anything beyond a simple 2d map making software is just too much of a hassle for me. Also, there are already a TON of D&D maps out there that I can just drop into Tabletop Simulator. I think I should probably just stick with that.
Foundry also has some import tools modules directly from dungeon draft that should autoadd appropriate walls and such. There is a DnDBeyond importer (you'll need to pay $5 -to a module creator to use i think) that I've heard is good things about. I'm sorry not currently running a dnd game.
There is a good foundry reddit forum that really does try to help figure out whether its for you. Its worth joining if foundry sounds promising to you.

I did see someone on tales tavern having built a very large part of rime of the frost maiden as Talespire maps. There's a huge amount of stuff being created for it - but I think you are right that it might not include absolutely everything. But there are quite a few of the existing modules that do have maps on tales tavern.
