I agree this seems likely - but anyone will be able to take the 2014 SRD and rehost it somewhere else in perpetuity, even if they succeed at nuking the OGL.
(Though honestly - knowing the backlash and clickbait headlines likely to spur enraged and ill-informed grognards who will be convinced WotC is "deleting 2014 from the internet," keeping everything available on DDB with a Legacy tag may be the most peaceful option.)
Not everyone that would be unhappy if that happened is an "enraged and ill-informed grog nard", some of us just take what we are told at face value, and WotC has been known to treat their statements regarding many things that turned into PR issues the last couple of years as more of "guidelines than actual statements" to paraphrase Capt. Barbossa.
I hate to break it to you, but that’s really all most PR statements are. A statement of intent is not in itself an absolute binding commitment. Which is not to say that it’s fine and acceptable if and when that gets exploited to mislead people, but to a certain degree it is also on the viewer to be mindful of that fact as well.

I'm not saying people can't be unhappy if their books become Legacy, but even if thats the route they go, we've been through that exact scenario before. Thread after thread and headline after headline had people readily convinced that Volo's and MToF were being completely erased from the site even if you had them already purchased, or that if you hadn't, there would be absolutely no way to access the material ever again. Neither of those were true of course, but it did nothing to stem the hysteria.
I never called you anti-WotC. In fact, I don't recall mentioning you at all 🤨
"Turning the existing core books Legacy will cause misinformed threads and clickbait headlines that lead to backlash" is, based on prior experience, a true statement.
