I agree with your "It's called progress." statement. I'm happy that some people have a nice friendly gaming store. I, however, do not have one located close to me. So, should I not be able to have this bundle?
The issue in the OP is about the wholesaler/supplier undercutting their own distributor which is a bad practice. (I haven't done the math on digital cost vs shipping to see if that is happening here)
I don't think anyone is saying that WOTC shouldn't offer a bundle, it just should match what their distributor (Local Game Store) is given the opportunity to supply
It will, they need the sales of these products to keep the lights on for us to play. Why host game nights for products that people can buy online that include a significant bonus?
TCGs, card singles, drinks, and snacks are what keep a shops lights on. Books, minis, board games, etc... Those are pleasant surprises when they sell.
…..Wizards will be selling the bundles for the same price as the stores, but including the digital copy…..
I don’t believe this is the case. I believe the bundle is more expensive than getting the book at the store (Although the store book will not include digital). When you add shipping to the mix—especially for folks outside the US it’s either a wash or cheaper to but the book at a FLGS and the digital version through DDB.
Yep.
In Britain, DDB charges £25. A book off Amazon is £30 or it's £35-£40 from my FLGS. Call it £65 for both. The bundle is £60, but it's £6 shipping. So depending on what the FLGS decide to charge and whether you decide to go Amazon or not, it's anywhere between a wash and £10 cheaper to buy them separately.

I agree 100%. I am OK with paying same price as what is listed at physical retailers. It didn't even occur to me they would undercut game stores, since that seems like an incredibly stupid thing to do as a business partner.

I did the math for Canadians in another thread, I'll copy/ paste it here:
Canada, for example, regular bundle is 59.94 USD + 42.99 USD for shipping and I'm pretty sure I would get billed extra for duties, let's estimate this one at 15% (local sales taxes) + 20USD for brokers fee (this is based on my previous experience with buying directly from Wizards for the secret lair bundles). The total ends up at 138.37 USD or 179.79 CAD.
Typical book price at a LGS is around 55 CAD (+15% sales taxes to be fair) so 63.25 CAD or 48.67 USD.
Buying the physical book locally + digital copy ends up at 48.67USD + 29.99USD = 78.66USD which is 59.71 USD cheaper than the bundle...
