I think our resident CM might be taking a well-deserved break this week, so I figured I'd get the ball rolling on discussing the spells preview video from earlier today:
Some of the things we learned:
The shapeshifting spells, e.g. Polymorph, now grant temp HP instead of replacing your HP with that of the creature.
While more balanced for polymorph spells used to buff allies, it's not clear how this will work on offensive baleful) polymorph.
The Conjure X redesigns, healing spell redesigns, and redesigns to spells like Blade Ward and Resistance appear to have made it out of the UA intact.
Many of the Tasha summons that were added to core gained new options (e.g. the Mind Flayer option added to Summon Aberration) and the statblocks were reworked in accordance with the updated monster design.
Existing spells added to core include Dragon's Breath, Synaptic Static, Toll the Dead, Mind Spike, Mind Sliver, and Ice Knife.
Various existing spells were buffed. For example, Prayer of Healing grants the benefit of a short rest, Chromatic Orb can bounce, Cloud of Daggers can be moved etc. (Other spells were buffed in as yet unrevealed ways, e.g. Flame Strike.)
Brand new spells include the Starry Wisp, Sorcerous Burst, and Elementalism cantrips, and the Tasha's Bubbling Cauldron spell.
Wish has more safe uses, as well as specific text tied to trying to use it in Sigil / on the Lady of Pain.
For me the highlight of this video was the art, particularly the effort to show two spells per piece (e.g. the wizard wearing Mage Armor and throwing Magic Missiles was a standout, or the one Levitating + Melf's Acid Arrow.)
I assume since you didn't mention it PsyrenXY that there wasn't a mention made of counterspell? Its proposed changes were the most controversial thing about individual spells I remember from the playtests and I personally was a fan. I anticipate WotC went back to leaving counterspell mostly as-is today but am curious where things ended up.
Thank you! All sounds positive. Bouncing Chromatic Orb sounds interesting. It’s often been a frustrating spell: sometimes, by the time you’ve found your diamond, your cantrips are outperforming it, so it’d be nice to see it buffed.

You're just starting to find 50g diamonds at level 11? This must be the cheapest campaign in the multiverse.
Jeremy revealed that Dragon's Breath will be given to Draconic Sorcerers, which implies that the Draconic Sorcerers subclass will also have extra spells similar to the Aberrant and Clockwork subclasses. I think it's safe to assume the same for the Wild Magic subclass as well. So all sorcerer subclasses have extra spells!
All in, I found the video underwhelming but this is one of those videos that would be hard without just flat out posting spells. That said, considering how detailed they have been with classes? I wish they did that for like 4-6 of them. Show us a stat block of what a spell looks like now.
I like including the classes that can cast the spell in the description. I like including more rules based text in the spell for clarity. I like including stat blocks for conjure/summon spells because it makes it less DM choice and tries to tighten the gameplay loop.
The books apparently each have their own set of preorder bonuses, the ones on the videos are for the PHB, and the stuff on the site goes for all preorders but doesn't unlock right away (at least if I've understood posts by the community manager correctly)
Hopefully they made true strike not useless it kinda pointless "I cast a spell but it goes away on my next turn but takes my whole action CASTING IT so... it's entirely pointless without homebrew"

Hopefully it’s similar to the version in the “Bastions & Cantrips” UA, where it let you make a weapon attack using your spellcasting ability and which inflicted radiant damage.
Very happy with the changes to the shapeshifting spells. I'd already houseruled that for the current ruleset; depending on the number of THP granted, I may be able to simply use the new version with no changes.
Can I just say thank you for these summaries you're taking the time to write for each reveal. So useful and much appreciated
Happy to help 🙂Honestly I'd be doing it anyway just so I can keep track of what they said and where even if there was nowhere to post it, but knowing it helps even a fraction of the community is absolutely a major plus. I don't mind their use of videos to relay information but I know how annoying it can

No mention of counterspell in that video, but I'd be very surprised if they leave it completely alone.

I believe Treantmonk confirmed this as well but I'll have to go back and check.
Appart from that, I was expecting some comment about the bonus action spell rule. Probably no changes on that?
No one has announced anything, but several of the content creators with preview copies are being EXTREMELY coy about SOMETHING so I do actually expect a big reveal here.
Can we discuss how cure wounds does 2d8 plus casting mod PER SLOT RANK
It's actually {2d8 per slot rank} + casting mod. In other words, you're not adding your casting mod more than once.
Still a great buff, and now an upcast cure wounds is a lot closer to a Heal spell in raw healing. Heal still wins though, on top of all the other things it does.
TL;DR the buff is totally fine.

Just to verify something I saw at the end of that video...
Below is what I was promised when I purchased the Digital package...
It does not match what was said at the end of the video...
So what's going on?
Did they spend 5-10 minutes talking about the artwork instead of spells?

I believe they were talking about the physical+digital bundle rather than the digital only bundle.
I still have this screenshot as well...

I guess this makes sense. In the 2014 PHB, Wild Shape and Shapechange are also similar in some way and their wording.
So if they're going to change how Whild Shape works, for me it's OK if the same applies to Shapechange.

Always remember this amazing answer from @DxJxC:
