My players have joined a guild and they get goodie bags! These are filled with several items that are already gear on site, plus a few custom items.
Right now I see three options, but please tell me if I'm missing something.
1. Hand out a list and tell the players to add it themselves. (I have to double check each player's inventory after)
2. Manually go into each characters sheet and add a backpack and put each item directly into into, creating the custom items for each one. (This is very time consuming for 7 players!)
3. Create a homebrew 'magic item' which includes a list of the items. (This is not interactive)
Just create the items, then you should be able to add them to each player's inventory without needing to recreate them.
If you'd like to emphasize that these came from the goodie bad, I'd say to use a naming convention, like Michael's Amazing Wand of Overcharged Magic Missiles.
If they all start with the same few words, I think they'll be sorted nicely together.
I would get them to add the items into their inventory themselves - if they're seasoned players it will take 2 minutes of effort. If they're new to D&D beyond it will be a great activity for practising how to use the inventory function... like a scavenger hunt or a competition.
If the 'backpack' is important or has some magical capacity, make a home brew item that they can add too... if its just a backpack/goodie back then keep it narrative only.
If there's specialty items, homebrew them and add into D&D beyond, then players can add themselves as required... like you said a list with the required items would be smart as well.
It shouldn't take too long and should make for a fun experience as people love getting goodies.

Is there a better option?
Containers aren't well supported.
